BLESSED TRINITY PARISH CLEVELAND, OH

From Fr. Doug’s Desk…

Gifts to be Celebrated

For the past two weeks I recalled the gifts that have come to Blessed Trinity from Annunciation and Ascension parishes. This week provides an opportunity to celebrate the giftedness we have received from St. Patrick parish. We are grateful for and happy to have: Eileen Hamblen, who is determined to keep going and whose willingness to serve at the table of the Lord is inspiring. Chris McAvinue, who shares his biblical wisdom with the children at their liturgy of the Word. Bill Bules, for his experience in helping rewrite the new by-laws for Blessed Trinity Athletic Assn. and for his generosity of time and spirit. Ed Robertson, who shares his financial astuteness with the parish Finance Council. Jim Gauntner who brings communion so faithfully to the homebound and those unable to come to Mass. Bill Svoboda, whose leadership we enjoy on the parish pastoral council. Lisa McAvinue, whose voice is heard in our beautiful choir. Maryellen Staab, who organized the pie baking contest. Patti Baddour, who also leads the children’s liturgy of the word. Deacon Bill Staab, whose gift of music inspires us and whose compassion for the ill leads him to coordinate all nursing home ministries. Deacon Dick Beercheck, whose insight makes the merging of three parishes run smoothly. Brian Baddour, whose clarinet, cantoring and connection to Laura’s mission, we admire. Melissa, Jill and Jessica Bresnahan, whose enthusiasm in singing the parish anthem is unparalleled. (They clap good, too!) Lenore Begin, who brings her wisdom and experience to our new parish. Dee Ialacci, who seems to be everywhere when a helping hand is needed. Mary Zavoda, who organized teams to clean up the two houses on Puritas and made them livable again. All of Mary Zavoda’s helpers. Fred Ialacci who encourages Dee to live out her baptismal call while he recovers.

Judy Beercheck, a psalmist and cantor and bountiful basement helper, who makes sure that the almost 200 families we serve each week, get food. Alice Haught, who participated in the town hall meetings after Masses. Mia Denos, who volunteers to decorate our church and who helps with communion at daily Mass. Tony and Jenny Mata, who attend Mass with me each Monday at different nursing homes and bring joy to the residents by their participation. Ashleigh and Izzy Robertson who attended the new altar servers training. Eloise Campbell for her stately presence and dedication as a Eucharistic minister. Ed Zavoda, who is helping to continue the Holy Name Society, and his son Jeff, who is also an altar server. The many people who came to see for themselves if this new parish might be for them. All those who sing a respond so prayerfully. The many people who said, “Well, if nothing else, the air conditioning is great. What timing!” Other people from St. Patrick parish whose names I did not mention but who help with bountiful basement, bingo, and the choir; who deliver food to the hungry, Eucharist to the infirmed, and wisdom to the children at Heroes Camp; who act as cantors, lectors, and good will ambassadors for the new parish; who went with the seniors to the Maltz Museum, ate hamburgers at the Parish Picnic Pot Luck and watered vegetables in the community garden. We are grateful and blessed to have all of you. We also welcome gifted people who have joined our parish from other closed or merged parishes Janet Dubas, whose beautiful flute music lifts our minds and hearts to God. The Andreani family, whose son donated his long hair to cancer patients. Jim and Ann Chadowski, whose background in religion we will surely tap. And many more. Save the evening of August 31. On that night we will be having a special evening entitled, “Grieving Our Losses, Missing Our Former Parish.”. There will be more on the structure and content of this evening next week.
