population; • 3 beard moving out of historic range• 166,000 acres of private land protected from subdivision and
development• 193 miles of highway assessed for mitigation of wildlife impacts
with 2 animal detection systems deployed• 130 landowners supported to install electric fencing 14 garbage
transfer facilities made secure from bears• 50 bear-‐resistant food lockers or garbage containers installed at
forest service campgrounds• 600 miles of forest access roads closed to motorized vehicles• 7 miles of forest access road restored to full ecological function
Next Steps for Partnership
• Look beyond Grizzly Bears to more multi-‐species work, specifically mountain caribou
• Create a communications plan to raise the profile of the conservation work and partnerships in the Cabinet-‐Purcell Mountain Corridor
• Address access management across the region on resource and forest roads
