Professional Trainee Program Overview This program is intended for student employees who chose to go above and beyond the basic training opportunities offered all student employees, and who agree to meet the expectation and requirements as outlined in the attached job description. How to Apply
1. Fill out Professional Trainee Program Application 2014-15
2. Submit application, cover letter, resume and typed paper of the following questions below (should not exceed 4
pages):
a. Why are you interested in being a Professional Trainee? What do you hope to gain from this experience?
b. What qualifications/skills will you bring to this position? Please provide examples of how you would utilize
these skills in the position(s) that interest you.
c. Please describe a time when you worked in a team setting (student organization, class project, athletic team,
etc.) and the role that you played on the team.
d. What do you consider to be the biggest challenge in engaging students in meaningful out of the classroom
experiences and what ideas do you have to address this challenge?

Resume Writing and Interviewing PT Student Title: Professional Trainee Positions Available: 1 Start Date: Fall ’14 & Spring ‘15 Salary: $10.00 per hour – 17 hrs/week Supervisor: Professional Staff Description: Present to a variety of students in the classroom and at other locations regarding resume, interviewing, and Career Services topics
Primary Responsibilities:
Complete email and in-person resume critiques and mock interviews
Provide classroom presentations regarding resume, interviewing, and a variety of other topics to students and campus constituents
Manage all classroom presentation requests; conduct workshops or assign student staff to assist
Create classroom workshops and train student employees to conduct workshop
Complete the professional development program via Ferris Blackboard Learn: includes reading, watching videos, attending workshops, taking assessments, and participating in discussions
Present a final portfolio presentation in a public forum
Variety of work hours including occasional nights and weekends
General Responsibilities:
Track attendance and assessment results and offer critical analysis on how to improve programs
Create resume and interviewing resources, videos, or other instructional guides
Communicate with students, faculty, and staff to schedule appointments and workshops, verify student attendance, and offer constructive feedback
Interview employers regarding their resume and interviewing techniques
Research trends in resume and interview preparation
Attend professional development opportunities as assigned by supervisor
Other duties as assigned by CLACS
Qualifications:
Friendly, energetic personality, and ability and willingness to talk to large groups
Experience with offering constructive feedback
Ability to understand each student’s unique background, and serve as an ethical role model for peers
Basic knowledge of a variety of careers or ability to research career and job descriptions
Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
Commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive campus community
Excellent verbal and written communication skill
Demonstrated commitment to student involvement and leadership development
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
Preferred Skills: InDesign, Microsoft Programs, and Prezi

Student Manager PT Student Title: Professional Trainee Positions Available: 1 Start Date: Summer ‘14, Fall ’14 & Spring ‘15 Salary: $10.00 per hour – 17 hrs/week Supervisor: Professional Staff Description:
Coordinate the posting process, interviewing, hiring, evaluation, and termination process for Front Desk and Customer Service Representatives employees.
Manage day-to-day student employee tasks: create and update staff work schedules, complete one-on-one meetings, create professional development plans, implement staff training activities maintain a fun, educational office environment where student employees like to be
Serve as a liaison between professional staff and student employees
Manage the day-to-day operations of Front Desk: promotion, and answering email questions
Assist with creation of policies, procedures, and processes to ensure an effective and efficient work system
Complete the professional development program via Ferris Blackboard Learn: includes reading, watching videos, attending workshops, taking assessments, and participating in discussions
Present a final portfolio presentation in a public forum
Primary Responsibilities:
Primary events responsible for: information tables, Career Advantage Series, Career Services
Certificate programs, and Real Life workshop series
Coordinate Career Services participation in other campus events such as: Bulldog Bonanza, Founders Day, Get Acquainted Day and Dawg Days.
Communicate with a variety of students, faculty, and staff around campus
General Responsibilities:
Track attendance and assessment results and offer critical analysis on how to improve programs
Promote all events to a diverse student population
Work a variety of hours including nights and weekends – most hours will be during the day
Create table top displays and organize handouts for events
Serve as back-up to the front desk receptionist and other duties as assigned by supervisor
Attend professional development opportunities as assigned by supervisor
Other duties as assigned by CLACS
Qualifications:
Attention to detail with excellent time management
Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

Student Title: Professional Trainee Positions Available: 1 Start Date: Summer ‘14, Fall ’14 & Spring ‘15 Salary: $10.00 per hour – 17 hrs/week Supervisor: Professional Staff Primary Responsibilities:
Manage public relations in a variety of ways to showcase the office’s mission and vision
Manage Social Media accounts (Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, LinkedIn)
Identify content for appropriate platforms
Update websites
Develop press releases and marketing ideas for major events and programs
Work with Graphic Design Coordinator to create effective advertising for programs and events such as creating table top displays and organizing handouts for events
Communicate with university marketing and follow all graphic standards
Complete the professional development program via Ferris Blackboard Learn; includes reading, watching videos, attending workshops, taking assessments, and participating in discussions
Present a final portfolio presentation in a public forum
General Responsibilities:
Build relationships with key stake holders
Serve as the office representative at Dawg Days, Founders Day and New Student Receptions held about one
Saturday per month
Create ways to access marketing tactics
Variety of work hours including occasional nights and weekends
Promote all events to a diverse student population
Seek out volunteers and schedule volunteers to assist in events and promotion
Attend Professional Development opportunities as assigned
Other duties as assigned by CLACS Supervisors
Qualifications:
