BEING eSMART As an eSmart accredited school we are constantly ensuring that we promote cybersafety and the safe use of the internet with all students.

Over the next week we will be having a particular focus across the whole school on the importance of remaining cyber safe, especially with the school holiday break approaching. It is therefore, a good time for you to bring this discussion of cybersafety up again with your own children.

We are very aware that students at Pinewood have used their home computers to sign up to some programs that are not recommended for primary school aged children. These include Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.

Can I reiterate again that children DO NOT provide ANY personal information when online?

This includes their names (and the names of their friends), addresses, phone numbers, favourite places, meeting times and school details. Photos showing team or school uniforms are also to be avoided. I understand that monitoring your child when on the internet can be difficult, but young children do not fully understand the repercussions that can occur through seemingly innocent behaviour.

You can set restrictions on your iPad, iPhone and iPod. This allows you to control what content rating can be viewed or downloading.

Please note that if you change Apps to 9+, then the Apps rated 12+ and above will no longer be visible on your device. This also applies to music and movies. The downloaded product will still be on your device, but hidden from view until restrictions are set to the classification or age restriction allowed for that product.

For parents sharing their device with their children, this is a handy hint to adjust the settings before handing the device to the child.

It is important to have your location service turned off for Apps such as Twitter, Facebook, Instragram, Google maps, Pinterest and Viber. You can also turn off the location by going to the settings in these programs, just look for the to access the settings menu.

OSHClub this week will be jam packed full of cooking as we endeavour to bake, create and cook everyday throughout our 'Masterchef' week. All ages will have the opportunity to put their chef hat on and hopefully try some of these new cooking skills at home! September/October holidays are around the corner which means bookings are now available for Vacation Care. We have a range of excursions, incursions and themed activity days planned so please ensure bookings are made, keeping in mind excursion days are usually booked out first. Any questions about Vacation Care can be directed to James or Maddie on 0409 906 462. General reminder to parents/carers to make bookings in advance to ensure a spot. If bookings are unavailable due to no vacancies, please feel free to contact us on the above number as there may have been recent cancellations. Have a wonderful week! Maddie, James & OSHClub Team :)

School Banking day is THURSDAY

In Week 8, the Prep word of the week was ‘beach’. The students were involved in a variety of literacy activities relating to the word beach throughout the week. One of the activities was making an edible beach and writing about what they had made.

“This morning we made our edible beach. The instructions: Make the jelly in a cup. Add the crushed biscuits for sand. Add a sour strap for a towel. Put a tiny teddy. Add an umbrella to decorate.

It was the best day ever!” Jordan, Prep S
