Quilt Display Cabinet

The most recent addition to DWR Custom Woodworking’s quilt display products is the Quilt Display Cabinet. It is the perfect way to display your prized quilts under glass. The Quilt Display Cabinet provides a space where the quilts can be seen but not handled or exposed to dust. The Quilt Display Cabinet Features Include:

1/8” Side and 1/4” Top Tempered Glass for safety

A solid wood cabinet with 1/2” veneer bottom and 1/4” back panel. The veneer is the same species as the solid wood.

A removable top for ease of loading.

The wood is sealed with 2-3 coats of the highest quality urethane topcoat.

Bunn feet are used to fit any décor. Wood Species matches the upper cabinet.

The 27” high quilt display cabinet will hold 6-7 full size quilts.

The 39” will hold 10-12 quilts.

The cabinet is available in Oak, Maple, Cherry, Walnut and Mahogany.

The 9927 Quilt Display Cabinet dimensions are approximately 29”L X 16” D X 27” H.

The 9939 Quilt Display Cabinet dimensions are approximately 29”L X 16” D X 39” H.

The standard top is removable and has a 1/4” pane of tempered glass with polished edges.

HANGING QUILT SHELF

8054 Hanging Quilt Shelf

The Hanging Quilt Shelf is a more conventional method of displaying quilts. The quilt is displayed from a rod mounted between two supports. The rod is 3/4" x 1 3/4" for support and because it is rectangle in shape it will not spin in the ends if the quilt is draped. The shelf is wider which allows larger items to be displayed. Add 4” to the overall length to allow for the shelf overhang. This style requires a rod pocket on the back of the quilt if full display of the quilt is desired.

The Quilt Stand is a simple design, inspired by the classic Shaker furniture of the past. The Quilt Stand is sturdy and stable. The 9300 style is 36" high and 37" wide and has 4 stretchers, 3 to display quilts. Stretcher spacing is wide enough to display heavy quilts. The 9310 style is 39" high and 37" wide. This Quilt Stand has 6 stretchers, 5 to display quilts. This quilt stand is excellent for displaying thinner quilts, quilt tops or afghans. The stretchers are 34" wide unless otherwise requested. QUILT STAND Traditional Quilt Display with 3 1/2” Shelf

The Traditional Quilt Display with 3 1/2” shelf was added to the display series to complement the traditional furniture design popular in today’s décor. The addition of the shelf with plate groove allows plates, collectables or pictures to be displayed. The beaded edges have been replaced with three rows of flutes that are milled between two rosettes. This technique gives the display its traditional look. To accent the fluted rows, the exposed knobs have been removed from this display. Stainless steel screws are used to maintain the pressure needed to gently hold your quilt in the display. These screws are inserted and tightened from the wall side of the mounting board into threaded brass inserts. Traditional Quilt Display

Apple Ladder

Since the introduction of the Quilt Ladder, many quilter's have requested an angled version similar to the ladders used to pick apples. The photo to the right is DWR Custom Woodworking rendition of the old apple ladder. It is available with 4, 5, or 6 rungs. The spacing is 15”, the same as the Quilt Ladder. The rung lengths start at 18” and end at 28” depending on the length of the Apple Ladder. The standard lengths are 75“, 90” or 105“. The Apple Ladder consists of two upright rails, rungs and pegs. To assemble the Apple Ladder the rungs are inserted into the rails and secured with the tapered peg supplied, making assembly very easy. See photo on the lower left of the opposite page for the assembly detail.

Add $20.00 for painted rungs and pins on stained wood.

The Quilt Ladder is ideal for areas where floor space is limited and a ladder can be leaned against the wall to display quilts vertically. The Quilt Ladder takes up approximately 25" x 20“ of floor space. The Quilt Ladder design is based on requests from the many quilters I have met at shows. The Quilt Ladder consists of two upright rails and 4, 5 or 6 rungs depending on the length ordered. The rungs are secured with tapered pins, making assembly very easy.

Classic Quilt Display

This particular display has been designed without knobs and decorative edges. This display’s edges are gently broken to give this piece its classic look. The color options made available to you on this display are natural or stained wood tones or your choice of having the piece painted Black, Bright White, Antique White, Manor House White. Stainless steel screws are used to maintain the pressure needed to gently hold your quilt in the display. These screws are inserted and tightened from the wall side of the mounting board and threaded into brass inserts. Quilt Display hardware is stainless steel and brass and will not rust or damage the quilt or textile art. No steel is ever used.

The hardware does not come in contact with the quilt. The quilt binding or upper edge is positioned in the groove provided below the hardware.

The Quilt Display can be ordered with or without the shelf. The shelf can be 3 1/2” or 5” deep and has a plate groove 1 3/4” from the back of the shelf.

Quilt Displays are available in pine, popular, oak, maple, cherry, mahogany and black walnut.

Only premium finishing materials are used for quilt and textile safety. No lacquer is used but the coating thickness is equivalent to four coats of catalyzed lacquer.

The Quilt Display will accept quilts and other textile art up to 5/8” thick. Thicker quilts can be accommodated by using longer stainless steel threaded knobs.

Quilt Displays are precision sanded to ensure that even pressure is applied to the clamping surface. Irregular quilt borders such as scallops can be easily displayed.

A wide variety of stain colors are provided to blend with existing décor and enhance the natural beauty of the wood.

Installation is easy with molly bolts or wood screws.

A variety of solid colors are available at an additional charge.

Quilter’s Step Ladder In an effort to provide additional vertical space for displaying quilts, DWR Custom Woodworking has added the Quilter’s Step Ladder. The Quilter’s Step Ladder provides seven round rungs for the 75” or nine round rungs for the 90” to display the quilts, three or four on each side and one at the top. The two side supports can be used to display smaller quilts or fabric. Assembly is the same as the other ladders, tapered pins through holes in the rung ends then tapped in with a mallet is all that is required. Screws attach the side supports to the rungs. The Quilter’s Step Ladder requires a 21” x 40” space on the floor. The height of the ladder rails is 75” or 90”. The first rung is 24” from the floor and the remainder of the rungs are spaced 15” apart. Please review the chart below for wood species and pricing.

QUILT DISPLAYS FOR MINIATURES

The Quilt Display for miniatures operate the same as the full size models. The wood thickness, knob size, and shelf width have been downsized to maintain proportion with smaller quilts. Quilt Displays for miniatures are available with or without a shelf. If ordered with a shelf, no plate groove is provided unless requested.

The Quilt Display pictured is the basic style Quilt Display available from DWR Custom Woodworking. The Quilt Display consists of a double beaded clamping board, mounting board, and the associated hardware to hold the quilt in position. The quilt is sandwiched between the two boards. The knobs provide the clamping pressure to hold the quilt. The wood species, standard lengths, and prices are listed in the table below.

The Quilt Display with shelf is functionally the same as the quilt display but has a 3 1/2" shelf permanently mounted to the mounting board. The relief on the shelf edge can be seen in the photo below. All quilt displays with a shelf have a plate groove.

The Quilt Display is a clamping system that provides even pressure along the clamping bar, holding the quilt or textile art without damage. Adequate tensioning knobs are provided to ensure even the heaviest quilt or textile art will be evenly supported. All surfaces are precision machined and sanded to ensure even pressure. The quilt is positioned on the lower portion of the mounting board with the clamping bar placed on top of the quilt and the quilt binding aligned in the groove. The tensioning knobs are then tightened and the quilt or textile art is fully supported.

HOW THE QUILT DISPLAY WORKS

Quilters have been requesting a wider shelf to display baskets, dolls and other collectables keyed to the quilt on display. DWR Custom Woodworking now offers a 5” shelf with end brackets for support. The shelf still has a plate groove 1 ¾” from the back. The shelf edge is a more traditional ½” radius as pictured in the photo above. The Quilt Display with 5” shelf functions the same. Tightening the knobs provides the clamping pressure between the clamping bar and mounting board. The shelf adds approx. 4” of width to the Quilt Display (the overall length of a 36” Quilt Display would measure 40” with the shelf).
