13.3 Stem-and-Leaf Plots
SWBAT read and make single and back-to-back stem-and-leaf plots
SWBAT compare sets of data given in stem-and-leaf plots
SWBAT find measures of central tendency from data displayed on stem-and-leaf plots
Vocabulary Stem-and-Leaf Plot- a type of graph that arranges
numerical data in order of place value
Measures of central tendency- used to describe sets of data; represent a centralized or middle value
Mean- the average number
Median- the middle number or mean of the two middle numbers
Mode- the number(s) that occur most often
How to make a stem-and-leaf plot
Label two table columns Stem and Leaf
Use all the digits to the left of the last digit of each data value as the stems. List these digits in increasing order down the stem column
Use the far right digit(s) of each datum for the leaves. Write each leaf to the right of its stem in increasing order
Write a key to show the meaning of each datum in the plot
Write a title for the graph
Make a stem-and-leaf plot for the given data. Then find the measures of central tendency
