Cell Structures found in both

plant and animal cells• Cell structures are called organelles

1. Nucleus: • control centre (brain), controls all activities in the cell• Eukaryotic cells: nucleus with a nuclear membrane (plant

and animal)• Prokaryotic cells: no nuclear membrane (bacteria, viruses)

2. chromosomes

- Inside of nucleus- Contains genes (genetic information)- Genes are made of DNA- Construction plans

3. Cell (or plasma) membrane• Surrounds cell• Gate keeper (controls what goes in and out of cell)• Made of a double layer of fat cells

4. Cytoplasm

- Watery fluid- Holds organelles in place- Transport

5. Vacuole

• Filled with fluid (water, nutrients, waste)• Storage for the cell• Very large in plant cells (used for stability as

well)

6. Some animal cells have flagellum (whip like tail) and cilia (hairs)

- Help cell move around
