Recognize that consumers eat a variety of food sources for energy, many overlapping with other other consumers.

This linking together of food chains are called food webs.

Consumers must compete for food sources.

Populations of species can change over time.

How it really is

Animals must work to get energy from food.

Sometimes prey may have different types of predators.

The predators must compete to get that food.

At the same time, those animals may have multiple predators.

These linking food chains are called food webs.
