1 GENERAL

1.1 SCOPE

This section of the specification gives the requirements for roadworks andpaving and is based on the Abu Dhabi Municipality specification forbackfilling of trenches and excavations in asphalt roads, tiled/paved parkingareas and sidewalks.

1.2 RELATED DOCUMENTS

The following sections of the specification shall be read in conjunction withthis section.

Section 01000-07 SubmittalsSection 01000-08 Quality controlSection 01000-09 Materials and equipment

1.3 STANDARDSAll activities relating to this section of the specification shall comply with thefollowing or approved equal standards.

Abu Dhabi MunicipalitySpecification for backfilling of trenches and excavations in asphalt roads,

tiled/paved parking areas and sidewalks.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

1.4.1 PRODUCTS AND MATERIALS APPROVAL.

a) In order to verify compliance with the specification the Contractor shallsubmit information for all products and materials used in the Works tothe Engineer for approval sufficiently in advance of their use inaccordance with the Contract programme allowing for ordering andapproval times. Reference shall also be made to Section 01000-09 ofthe specification on products and materials approval. Information to be

submitted shall comprise but not necessarily be limited to:

i. Manufacturers/suppliers name.ii. Product name/description.iii. Manufacturers technical data.iv. Manufacturers certificates of compliance with this section of the

specification.v. Storage instructions.vi. Application instructions.vii. Mix design.

1.4.2 METHOD STATEMENTS

a) The Contractor shall submit method statements to the Engineer forapproval 4 weeks in advance of commencing the site activity inaccordance with Section 01000-07 of the specification. These shallcomprise but not necessarily be limited to:

i. Method of mixing and laying of sub base and road base.ii. Method of surface preparations and application of prime and tack

coat.iii. Method of mixing, laying and compaction of bitumen mixes.iv. Method of laying kerbstones and block paving.

1.4.3 DRAWINGS

a) The Contractor shall submit drawings to the Engineer for approval inadvance of commencing the site activity in accordance with Section01000-07 of the specification. These shall comprise but not necessarilybe limited to:

i. Location and construction of any temporary barricades and fences.

1.4.4 SAMPLES

a) Representative samples, as agreed with the Engineer, must be

submitted for at least the following items at the same time as theparticulars are submitted.

i. Precast concrete kerbs.ii. Concrete paving blocks.iii. Road marking materials.iv. Traffic signs.

1.4.5 MOCK UP

a) The Contractor shall prepare a mock up as requested by the Engineerfor at least the following installations.

i. 1m mock up of block paving layout.

1.5 QUALITY CONTROL

a) Prior to dispatch of any product and/or material from source theContractor shall notify the Engineer in writing in sufficient time to allowthe Engineer the opportunity to inspect and test the product and/ormaterial prior to delivery in accordance with Section 01000-08 of thespecification.

b) Products and materials shall be from a manufacturer/supplier who

operates a quality system which is registered to ISO 9000 series orapproved equal.

c) To allow the Engineer to inspect the Works the Contractor shall give the

Engineer a minimum of 24 hours notice of carrying out the followingactivities on site.

i. Commencement of sub base and road base mixing and laying,including trials.

ii. Commencement of prime coat and tack coat application.iii. Commencement of laying of kerbstones and block paving.iv. Commencement of road marking.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

a) Delivery, storage and handling of products and materials shall be inaccordance with the manufacturers recommendations, Section 01000-09 of the specification and the following provisions.

b) Delivery, storage and handling shall at all times be performed in amanner to avoid product damage.

c) The Contractor shall visually inspect all products upon delivery to siteand report any damage to the Engineer.

i. Any products damaged during delivery, storage and handling shallbe marked by the Contractor and set aside.

ii. Proposals for repair of any damaged products shall be submitted inwriting to the Engineer for approval.iii. Any damaged products deemed unsuitable for repair by the

Engineer shall be removed from site and replaced.

2 PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL

All products/materials shall be in accordance with the requirements of theAbu Dhabi Municipality specification for backfilling of trenches andexcavations in asphalt roads, tiled/paved parking areas and sidewalks

3 EXECUTIONS

3.1 GENERAL

The construction of roads, paved areas, kerbs and sidewalks shall be inaccordance with the requirements of the Abu Dhabi Municipalityspecification for backfilling of trenches and excavations in asphalt roads,tiled/paved parking areas and sidewalks.
