The registration for the participants was closed on 14th Oct. The proceedings started on 13th Nov with the event CircuitriX where the participants had to bring an innovative circuit of their own, based on the innovation level of circuits and some other criteria some of the selected participants moved on to the next round where they were given a problem statement and circuit components and they had to complete the circuit. It was followed by TechKraft where the participants had to bring any working model with the description of the working principle of their model. On 13th evening the prelim of the programming contest was held which was an online test based on C concepts. Selected students from the prelims were then given a set of 5 questions out of which 3 had to be solved in 2.5 hrs. On 13th evening the online gaming contest was also held. The gaming event was an overnight event with many gaming enthusiasts participating. The games played in the event were Counter Strike 1.6 and NFS Most Wanted. On the morning of 14th Nov the Paper Presentation contest was held. The papers were divided in 4 categories depending on the subject matter. The finals of the Programming Contest and the Robotics contest were also held on 14th Nov. All the competitive events finished on 14th noon.

Then it was time for speech by the chair IEEE Kharagpur section, Prof. D. Samanta and the lecture session from some of eminent speakers from IIT Kharagpur and IIM Kolkata. The lecture session was followed by the prize distribution and the member felicitation ceremony. This was followed by the closing ceremony and the vote of thanks by the IEEE HIT Student Branch Counselor Prof. Prithwiraj Purkait. The participants of the events included undergraduate engineering students from various fields e.g. computer science, electronics & communication, electrical engineering, biotechnology etc. The participants were from colleges from in and around eastern India. The total number of participants was around 450. The volunteers for the events were final and pre-final year students from Haldia Institute of Technology. The industries from in and around haldia also gave full support to the event in the form of sponsorships and participation. Some of the prominent names are Indian Oil Petronas Ltd., Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd., South Asian Petrochemicals Ltd., CMC Computers, etc. Our Student branch also had full support from the management of our college Haldia Institute of Technology and the IEEE Kharagpur Section. Now a closer look at the several competitive events held during the 125th anniversary celebration by IEEE HIT Student Branch.

1. Technical Paper Presentation Contest (Abhivyakti) Event coordinators: Nikhil Sinha, Naren.

The papers were classified in 4 sections depending on the subject matter. The four sections were

A. CSE/IT B. CHE/BT/FT C. EI/ECE/EE D. ME/PE/CE

The last date for submission of papers was 26th October 2009. The papers were reviewed by faculty members from respective departments. The selected authors were then called to present their papers on 14th November 2009. The proceedings published for the occasion contained 40 papers that were finally selected for presentation.

3. Model Presentation Contest (TechKraft)

Event coordinators: Manish Kumar, Sayanti Sikder. The participants had to present a working model along with a synopsis of their model i.e. a

description of the working principle of the model and the possible areas of use. The winners were chosen on the basis of their idea and proper working of the model.

4. Robotics Contest (RoboForge)

Event coordinators: Manish Kumar, Sayanti Sikder. This event was for the robotics enthusiasts. There were two categories in this event; one was

the Line Follower robot category where the participants had to make autonomous robots which had to follow black lines on white background. The robots had to be autonomous with no external control. The second category was of aqua ceptor robots which were supposed to be manually controlled. The task of these robots was to cut and collect balls placed in a water body while floating (rather swimming).

5. Circuit Design Contest (CircuitriX) Event coordinators: Arnab Dasgupta, Sanat Kumar.

This event was held in two stages. In the first stage, the participants had to bring an electrical or electronic circuit of their own choice. The circuits had to be innovative. Chosen participants were then taken to next round where they were given a problem statement and they had to make a circuit on the spot with given circuit components within a stipulated period of time.
