Welcome to the 12th annual Open Studio Tour. It’s time to begin surfing the studios of artists living and working along the South Coast of New England. The tour includes the communities of Dartmouth and Westport, MA, and Little Compton and Tiverton, RI. The tour is Free and happens on two separate weekends, July 18-19 and August 15 – 16, from 11 am – 5 pm.
Over the years this area has become recognized as an important artistic destination for artists, galleries, and lovers of art. We are home to internationally recognized artists and passionate regional artists. The diverse landscape of rural farming and ocean living inspires them to create visionary works where self expression is a way of life.
To celebrate our 12th year, artists on the Studio Tour were challenged to create original works of art based on the theme Studio Surf. Judging the contest was well-known art professional Kathleen Hancock, Director of the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Gallery at Bristol Community College. The Studio Surf winners are Carol Way Wood, Nancy Whitin and Sharon Hardin, whose works are shown on the cover of this brochure and depicted in detail on the artist page.

From Providence (approximately 30 minutes) From Rte. 95, take exit for Rte. 195 East towards Fall River. Follow for about 20 miles, over Braga Bridge, and take Exit 10 (Horseneck Beach – Rte. 88) to Westport and follow brochure map.

Best in ShowStudio Surf by Carol Way WoodA whimsical and yet direct take on Studio Surf. The South Coast is conceived as an artist’s wonderland where the gentle swell of surf propels us along the route of this year’s tour. The subject is both a reflection of the theme for 2015 and a delightful metaphor for the creative impulse.
Second PlaceBeach Party by Nancy WhitinSandpipers maneuver along the edge where the surf meets the shore, their constant readjustment, a reflection of the ebb and flow of the water, and the subtle, inspired choreography that occurs in the narrow space between sand and tide.
Honorable MentionDusk in Westport by Sharon HardinThe palette is a crescendo of moody – stormy and vibrant – color. The sensation of land and sky and water is conveyed as an atmospheric and expansive continuum and a playground for the mind.
