I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and friends of Stage 2 students who helped make the fete such a great success. The delicious baked goods that were donated by Stage 2 for the cake stall all looked fantastic and helped raise lots of money. All of the customers to the cake stall suggested that the most difficult part of their day was trying to decide which cake, selection of biscuits or slice to buy as they all looked so good! 3/4T has started a poetry unit this week and the students have already written and published their first poem. An acrostic poem about Autumn. I look forward to reading more of their creative and thoughtful poems over the coming weeks as we look at a range of different styles of poetry. Over the coming few weeks we will be giving students the opportunity to learn and develop their athletics field events skills in preparation for the field events carnival in Week 6. These include high jump, long jump, shot-put and discus. Can I please encourage all parents to double check that your child’s name is clearly marked on their jumpers and jackets. With the children often removing them during PDH and playtime we have an increasing number of un-named items building up in lost property. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT—WEEK 4 Last Saturday, 9 May we held our annual Mother’s Day Fete.

The day was a wonderful event, which is the major

fundraiser for our school P & C. Thank you to all community

members, parents, students and staff who contributed

enormously to the day. Early indications are that we have

again had a successful event in terms of our P & C raising

funds to support all students at our school.

For all parents of Year 4 students, Opportunity Class

application information for intake into classes for 2016 has

been sent home and the timeline for applications is as per

below. If parents have any questions about the process

please contact the school office for more information.

Monday 27 April 2015: Online applications open; Friday 15

May 2015: Online applications close; Wednesday 22 July

2015: Opportunity Class Placement Test

Parents will be able to access the online application at

www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement .

Well done to students who competed in the District Cross

Country at the University last Friday. All students did their

best and they represented Armidale City Public School with

distinction. Good luck to the students who will compete at

North West Cross Country in Coolah on 12 June.

All students in Years 3 and 5 are participating in NAPLAN

this week. Students completed Language Conventions and

Writing components yesterday, the Reading component

today and Numeracy on Thursday. Students are to be

congratulated on their high levels of effort thus far and we

thank parents for ensuring their children come to school

during this time.

Our School Council Annual General Meeting will be held next

Monday, 18 May from 7pm and there is currently a position

vacant for a parent representative on the School Council.

Nomination forms for the vacant position were sent home a

couple of weeks ago and close this Friday, 15 May at 4pm.

We would like to remind parents that if they have an issue

to discuss about their child with the class teacher that an

appointment should be made through the school office on

6772 3420 so that a mutually convenient time can be made

with your child’s teacher. Like parents, the time of

teachers during and outside school times can have a number

of priorities that need to be fitted in and it is also

important for teachers to have time to prepare relevant

responses to the issues parents may raise. Teachers have a

very important role in the education of all students and

thus, we remind all parents of their responsibilities when

approaching a member of staff – it should be done in a

respectful and calm manner, not in a confrontational,

aggressive manner, either in person or over the phone.

Being respectful and calm are values which we teach our

children through our ‘You Can Do It’ program and values we

aspire all members of our community to have. We thank

parents who do work with our teachers in a positive manner

and look forward to continuing working with you all to

educate your children.

If any parent has something they would like to discuss at

any time, please email me on the address below or contact

the school office to make an appointment.

SPORT NEWS The girls’ softball team had mixed success at the PSSA

knockout carnival in Tamworth last week. In the first round

Armidale City Public School defeated Tamworth 23-5. The

second round match proved to be a greater challenge and

Duri Public won the game 21-9. Mrs MacGregor was

extremely impressed with the girls’ efforts and overall

sportsmanship. A special thank you to Greg Eickhoff, Julie

Walsh, Shaun Collins, Lucas Hazel and Adam Armstrong,

who transported the girls to Tamworth and supported the

team.

Congratulations to the team of 48 runners who represented

Armidale City Public School at the Zone Cross Country

carnival, last Friday. The following children placed in the

top 6 of their age divisions and will now go on to compete at

the North West carnival: Javan, Sam, Chio, Jessica, Corey

and Brock. We wish them every success at the next level.

Sam has had a very busy fortnight attending cricket and

rugby union trials. Sam gained selection in the North West

Cricket team and the Armidale Zone Rugby Union team. He

will travel to Barooga in Term 4 for the State Cricket

Carnival and the Northern Rugby Union trials will be held in

Armidale next Monday. Well done, Sam, on this fantastic

effort.

This week’s winning house is Oxley.

KINDER RED NEWS Wow, it’s amazing how fast Term 2 is flying by! It’s already

week 4!!! I was so delighted to see all of Kinder Red’s

bright smiley faces return to school and hear about

everyone’s fantastic Easter holiday adventures. We’ve

enjoyed writing about them too.

In class we have been enjoying some very beautiful books

written by Oliver Jeffers and Chris Haughton. We are

currently using these as inspiration to create some

beautiful artworks. Please feel free to come and visit our

classroom to view our art creations.

Throughout this term as a part of our HSIE unit we are

learning about all the things we need and want as well as

looking at healthy food choices. We had loads of fun last

week searching for healthy and unhealthy food pictures

which we used to create two ‘Huge’ collage posters. We now

know cake is only a sometimes food!

I am so impressed with KR’s continued enthusiasm towards

their learning and good manners. We are bound to have

another excellent term!
