All students at Edison have music education opportunities – with the Kinder, 1 st and 2 nd grade choral music program supported through the Santa Monica Malibu Education Foundation and 3 rd -5 th graders participating in the District music program. And this December there are several opportunities for parents to enjoy and appreciate the progress our students have made with their music education. In 4 th and 5 th grades, every student has the opportunity to learn to play an instrument or to be in a choir, with twice weekly music classes during the school day. Parents of 4 th and 5 th graders will have the opportunity to see how their children are doing in music this year at a winter “informance” – Thursday, December 4 at 8:45 am for 5 th grade and Thursday, December 11 at 8:45 am for 4 th graders. Edison also provides a choral music program for students in Kindergarten, First and Second Grades. Our program is entirely in Spanish, taught by music educator and professional musician Jacqueline Fuentes and provides another way for our students to learn about the cultural heritage of the Americas. Please come and enjoy the K-1 Choral Concert on Tuesday, December 16 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the cafetorium. 5 th Grade parents will be selling dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, December 17, 2 nd grade students will be performing as part of a Noche de Baile y Canto from 6:30-7:30 p.m. – also in the cafeteria. 2 nd graders will sing and 5 th graders will dance. Congratulations are in order for the 37 Edison 5 th grade students who auditioned and were just selected for the District Elementary Honor Choir, Honor Band and Honor Orchestra! These students will be beginning weekly afterschool rehearsals culminating in performances in February, 2015. If you’ve never been, the Stairway to the Stars Concerts are really impressive and feature the top student musicians in elementary, middle and high school. The rigor of our District music programs and the caliber of our students will amaze you! Cold and Flu Season Reminders – We want your children at school every day that they’re healthy. But when flu and fever strike, please keep them home while they’re contagious. Children should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. ANNOUNCEMENTS

It’s a pleasure to be part of a school district that not only has rigorous academic standards and makes resources available for teaching and learning, and also has a truly outstanding music program. Kansas Avenue campus is proceeding on schedule. Soil was abated and removed on Saturday, November 22. If all goes according to plan, the first buildings will start coming down on December 5. Schedules, pending and completed tasks, environmental and other reports, FAQs, and other construction information are posted on http://fipcontractors.smmusd.org/edison-new-construction.aspx. Hard copies of the schedule are also posted in the main office and on two windows in the breezeway/ cafecito area.

ANUNCIOS

Es un placer ser parte de un distrito escolar que no solamente tiene normas académicas rigorosas y hace recursos disponibles para enseñar y aprender, y también tiene un programa de música verdaderamente sobresaliente. Todos los estudiantes en Edison tienen oportunidades de educación de música – con el Kindergarten, 1º y 2º grado en el programa de música coral apoyado por la Fundación de Educación de Santa Mónica y Malibú y los estudiantes del 3º al 5º grado participando en el programa de música del Distrito. Y este diciembre hay varias oportunidades para que los padres disfrute y aprecien el progreso que nuestros estudiantes han hecho con su educación de música.

En los grados 4º y 5º, cada estudiante tiene la oportunidad de aprender a tocar un instrumente o estar en el coro, con clases de música dos veces por semana durante el día escolar. Los padres de estudiantes de 4º y 5º grado tendrán la oportunid de ver cómo sus hijos están progresando en música este año en una “Presentación Informativa” – el jueves, 4 de diciembre a las 8:45 am para los estudiantes en 5º grado y el jueves, 11 de diciembre a las 8:45 am para los estudiantes del 4º grado.

Edison también provee un programa de música coral para los estudiantes en Kindergarten, 1º y 2º grado. Nuestro programa es completamente en español, enseñado por educadora de música y músico profesional Jacqueline Fuentes y provee otra manera para que nuestros estudiantes aprendan sobre herencia cultural de las Américas. Por favor vengan y disfruten del Concierto Coral de K-1 el martes, 16 de diciembre de 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. en la cafetería. Los padres de 5º grado estarán vendiendo cena desde las 5:30 p.m. El miércoles, 17 de diciembre, los estudiantes del 2º grado darán una presentación como parte de una Noche de Baile y Canto de 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – también en la cafetería. Los estudiantes de 2º grado cantarán y los estudiantes de 5º grado bailarán.

¡Felicidades están merecidas para los 37 estudiantes de 5º grado de Edison quienes audicionaron y fueron elegidos para el Coro de Honor, Banda de Honor y Orquesta de Honor Primarios del Distrito! Estos estudiantes comenzarán sus ensayos semanales después de clases culminando en presentaciones en febrero del 2015. Si ustedes nunca han ido, los Conciertos de Escaleras Hacia las Estrellas son realmente impresionantes y presentan a los mejores estudiantes músicos en primaria, escuela media y secundaria. ¡El rigor de nuestros programas de música del Distrito y el calibre de nuestros estudiantes los sorprenderán!

Recordatorios de la Temporada de Resfriados e Influenza– Queremos a sus hijos en la escuela todos los días que estén saludables. Pero cuando la influenza y la fiebre atacan, por favor manténganlos en casa mientras estén contagiosos. Los niños deben estar libre de fiebre por 24 horas antes de regresar a la escuela. Y n casos de vómito y diarrea, no deben regresar hasta 24 horas después del último incidente. Por favor asegúrense de que su hijo/a use pañuelos desechables para sonar su nariz, que estornude en

El Gran Show de Jóvenes Contando Cuentos –Para una noche divertida e inspirante, vengan y vean diez obras escritas por estudiantes de 5º grao de Edison y actuadas en nuestro escenario por actores profesionales. El 10 de diciembre – 6:00-8:00 pm. ¡Nuestro profundo agradecimiento a la Fundación de Jóvenes Contando Cuentos por más de una década de trabajo realmente inspirante con los estudiantes de Edison!

Informes de los Proyectos de Mejoramiento de las Instalaciones (FIP) – El trabajo de disminución en la escuela en la Kansas Avenue está procediendo a tiempo con el horario. La tierra fue disminuida y removida el sábado, 22 de noviembre. Si todo va de acuerdo con el plan, los primeros edificios comenzarán a derrumbarse

Divisions are based on skill level & age. Scholarships are available.
