WHAT THE TIGERS DID A YEAR AGO • Memphis posted a 31-5 overall record and a

perfect 16-0 Conference USA mark in 2012-13. • The Tigers swept the 2012-13 Conference USA

tles, taking both the regular-season and tour-nament crowns. It was the sixth me in the last eight years that Memphis swept the C-USA championships.

• The 30-win season was the sixth in the pro-gram’s history, and the 31 victories are ed for the fi h-most in school history.

• The 16-0 league record was the fourth me in the last seven seasons the Tigers went unbeat-en in conference ac on.

• Josh Pastner and Joe Jackson swept Con-ference USA’s top two honors, winning the league’s Gene Barton Coach of the Year and Player of the Year Awards, respec vely. Chris Crawford was named C-USA’s Sixth Man of the Year.

• Crawford was voted the C-USA Tournament MVP a er leading the Tigers to the league postseason tle with a thrilling 91-79 double-over me win over Southern Miss. Crawford hit a C-USA Tournament record 19 three-pointers in three games.

• The Tigers earned C-USA’s automa c bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the third round with a 54-52 second-round victory over Saint Mary’s. Memphis fell to Michigan State 70-48 in the third round.

Dave Woloshin calls the play-by-play, while Ma Dillon serves as the color analyst. Dillon and Forrest Goodman (in studio) host the pre- and postgame shows. WHAT THE DEMONS DID A YEAR AGO • Northwestern State posted a 23-9 overall re-

cord and a 15-3 Southland Conference (SLC) mark in 2012-13.

• The Demons fi nished second in the Southland Conference regular-season standings.

• In the Southland Conference Tournament, Northwestern State defeated Stephen F. Aus n 68-66 to win the crown and earn the league’s automa c bid to the NCAA Tournament.

• The Demons, the South Region’s No. 14 seed, fell to No. 3 seed Florida 79-47 in the NCAA Tournament second round.

SCOUTING THE DEMONS • Northwestern State

brings a 3-3 record into Saturday’s non-conference contest.

• Saturday’s contest is the fourth road game of the early season for the Demons. Northwestern State is 1-2 on the road, with its lone road victory a 111-92 win at Auburn Nov. 15.

• Hicks (15.0 ppg), Zikiteran Woodley (14.3 ppg) and Brison White (12.8 ppg) also average dou-ble digits scoring for Northwestern State.

• Last season, Hicks was the SLC Newcomer of the Year and an All-SLC second team pick.

• Hicks leads the Demons on the glass with a 7.0 rebounding average, with Woodley the squad’s second-leading rebounder at 5.3 rpg.

The 2013-14 season marks the 10th for the Tigers in their home arena, FedExForum, which offi cially opened in September, 2004. Located just a few feet off Beale Street on historic Highway 61, FedExForum rises to extend the heart of the Memphis entertainment district. Memphis plays all of its 2013-14 home contests in the 18,400-seat arena, which is serving as the host site for the inaugual American Athle c Confer-ence Championship Mar. 12-15, 2014. Two weeks, later, FedExForum is host-ing the 2014 NCAA Tournament South Regional Mar. 27-29. Since it opened in 2004, FedExForum has hosted six Conference USA Tournaments, the 2009 NCAA Men’s South Regional and 2010 NCAA Women’s South Regional. At 135 feet high, FedExForum provides a new backdrop for historic Beale Street. The 805,850 square-feet arena, covering 13.8 acres, features fi ve lev-els as well as state-of-the-art locker rooms and facili es for sports teams, as well as an excep onal dining and entertainment experiences for its patrons.

• In his three appearances, Pellom averaged 1.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 7.7 minutes of ac- on.

• The reason for the Nov. 7 surgery was that the 6-foot-7, 224-pound forward was experiencing some knee discomfort from an injury suff ered earlier in his collegiate career at George Wash-ington.

MEMPHIS RECEIVES NCAA PUBLICRECOGNITION AWARD FOR fourth YEAR • For the fourth-straight year, the Memphis

men’s basketball team received an NCAA Public Recogni on Award, given to teams with APRs in the top-10 percent of their respec ve sports.

• Memphis was one of 35 schools in the na on to receive an NCAA Public Recogni on Award and also par cipate in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

• Memphis also was the only men’s basketball program in Conference USA to earn an NCAA Public Recogni on Award.

• The NCAA Public Recogni on Awards are based on the sports’ most-recent mul -year Aca-demic Progress Rate (APR). This year, the top performing APR scores ranged from 978 to a perfect 1,000.
