Authors: Biswabandhu Jana, Anindya Jana, J.K.Sing and Subir Kumar Sarkar Journal: Journal of Nano and Electronic Physics Abstract: The urge of inventing a new low power consuming device for the post CMOS future technology has drawn the attention of the researchers on Single Electron Transistor [SET]. The two main virtues, ultra low power consumption [1] and ultra small dimension of SET [12, 13] have stimulated the researchers to consider it as a possible alternative. In our past paper [1] we have designed and simulated some basic gates. In this paper we have designed and simulated hybrid SET-CMOS based counter circuits, shift register to show that the hybrid SET-MOS based circuits consumes the lesser power than MOS based circuits. All the simulation were done and verified in Tanner environment using the MIB model for SET and the BSIM4.6.1 model for MOSFET. Abstract: The presence of multiple obstacles on the real deployed geographical area may hinder the effective operations of large scale Wireless Sensor Network in terms of significant disturbance in proper routing, increased delay in data transmission and increased energy consumptions. To overcome this problem, a novel pulse mode object localization algorithm and its VLSI implementation for designing the sensor node processor is proposed in this article. The algorithm supports distributed and energy efficient sleep scheduling with periodic synchronization and reconfigure the routing scheme that can be used to extend the life time of sensor network. The algorithm is made power efficient by using pulse mode operation. It is a high performance sensor node processor with an overall power consumption of 0.012mW in active mode with a dynamic current of 1.27mA at the working frequency of 1536MHz. The algorithm is verified using MATLAB for different possible obstacles and percentage error has been calculated for each case. The hardware of this sensor node processor has been realized using ISE 14.3 simulation tools and emulated in Virtex-V prototype Field Programmable Gate Array kit. 5. Title: On the Implementation of Robust Copyright Protection Scheme Using Visual Attention Model Authors: Abhishek Basu and Subir Kumar Sarkar Journal: A Global Perspective, Taylor & Francis. Abstract: Perceptual watermarking should always take full advantage of the results from human visual system (HVS) studies. Based upon visual saliency’s modulation effect which incorporates visual attention’s influence on visual sensitivity, this paper proposes an integrated visual saliency modulated HVS model guided least significant bit (LSB) watermarking approach for copyright protection. The proposed algorithm can embed more information into visually non-belligerent areas within the host image, determined by the visual attention model. The region of uninterested (ROU) indicates the most unimportant visible aspects of an image, so distortion within these areas will be less noticeable to any viewer. To resist common signal processing attacks, for each ROU, an improved quantization method is employed to embed the copyright information. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is more robust to various image impairments while minimum effect on the image quality as verified by objective evaluations while compared with the state-of-the-art watermarking schemes. Moreover, we have evaluated the theory of Kurtosis testing to the steganalysis of the host image. Status: Published in A Global Perspective, Taylor & Francis, Vol: 22, pp 10-20, 2013

Conference: CIEC conference Kolkata, 2014 Abstract:  Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is a very efficient optimization algorithm that uses the foraging behavior of honeybees. ABC has been quite extensively studied upon and applied to solve many real world engineering problems. Routing is one of the crucial stages in physical design, on which the performance of the entire chip depends. Global routing is the first step of routing where the nets in different blocks of the chip are loosely interconnected. Detailed routing which follows after global routing determines the particular points through which actual routing is to be done. So global routing is the most important part of routing and the proper interconnection between nets with the most optimum wire length depends on the performance of this stage. This paper presents an algorithm based on ABC for calculating the wire length in global routing and the optimized results are compared against the standard router NTHU 2.0. NTHU-Route 2.0 is a quick and robust global router which solves all ISPD benchmarks maintaining very good quality. 7. Title: A Swarm Based Global Routing Optimization Scheme. Authors: Abhinandan Khan, Pallabi Bhattacharya and Subir Kumar Sarkar Conference: International Conference On Advances In Electrical Engineering (ICAEE’2014), Vellore, 9-11Jan, 2014. Abstract: Swarm Intelligence (SI), modelled upon the behaviours of various swarms of animals and insects such as ants, termites, bees, birds, fishes, fireflies, etc. is an emerging area in the field of optimization. SI based algorithms are proclaimed to be robust and efficient optimization tools. This fact is corroborated by a number of practical engineering problems where these algorithms give very satisfactory results. Nowadays VLSI Design has become one of the most intriguing and fervent research field for engineers. Efficient development of a system of a billion chips and blocks on a printed circuit board requires extensive use of optimization in various areas of design such as chip size, separation among components, interconnect length etc. One of the most significant among these is the interconnect wirelength, which determines the overall delay in transmission within the chip. The routing phase in the VLSI Physical Design strives to optimize the interconnect length. Several studies have been and are being conducted to improve the performance of VLSI chips by optimally interconnecting the various components. Various SI based algorithms have already proved their efficiency in this field of routing optimization. In this paper we have proposed a global routing scheme based on contemporary SI algorithms: Firefly Algorithm (FA), and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm and have compared the performance of the two. FA produces superior optimization results in comparison to ABC although proving to be quite expensive, computationally. Journal: IEEE transactions on Evolutionary computation. Abstract: This paper presents a comparative study of two swarm intelligence algorithms, namely, a modified Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (DPSO) algorithm and a modified Discrete Artificial Bee Colony Optimization (DABCO) algorithm. The study is based on the performances of these algorithms in the area of routing optimization in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) systems. The VLSI routing problem is essentially a NP-hard problem of finding a Minimal Rectilinear Steiner Tree (MRST) formed by the terminal nodes of a VLSI system. The purpose of both the algorithms is to find suitable Steiner points to minimize the number of parallel paths between nodes. Prim’s algorithm is suitably modified for the purpose of finding the cost of the MRSTs produced by both the algorithms. A modification is made to the traditional Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) by introducing an operation analogous to the mutation operation of Genetic Algorithm (GA). Traditional Artificial Bee Colony Optimization (ABCO) has also been modified to suit the discrete nature of the problem handled in this work. Six different experiments are done using each of the algorithms, increasing the number of terminal nodes and the size of the system. The modified DABCO outperforms the modified DPSO algorithm, in optimizing the routing cost and thereby finding the lowest wire lengths. 11. Title: Design and Simulation of Hybrid CMOS-SET Technology Based Combinational Circuits. Authors: Anindya Jana, N. B. Singh, Biswabandhu Jana, J.K.Sing and Subir Kumar Sarkar, Journal: International Journal of Electronics, Taylor & Franscis Abstract: The direct application of Single Electron Circuits in practical is yet almost impossible due to its extremely poor driving capabilities. To overcome this problem, a novel methodology has been taken, called hybrid technology comprising of Single Electron Transistor (SET) and MOSFET. In this present work we have proposed room temperature operable different hybrid SET-CMOS based circuits like Half Adder, Full Adder, 4-to-1 MUX, 2-to-4 Decoder and Ring Oscillator with background charge effect. To simulate these circuits, we have used MIB compact model for SET and BISIM 4.6.1 for CMOS. All the circuits’ results are verified in Tanner environment to see whether they are operating correctly in that network in room temperature.  Status: Submitted for publication after two technical reviews.

circuit model in those papers. The simulation results show that the performance of the circuits presented in this paper are satisfactory thereby establishing the feasibility of using the proposed hybrid circuits in future low power ultra-dense VLSI/ULSI circuits. All the simulation is done using Hybrid SET-CMOS technology with the help of MIB and BSIM4.6.1 model in tanner environment to realize the better performance. 12.7.8 Working Plan during 2014-2017

• The direct application of Single Electron Circuits in practical is yet almost impossible due to its extremely poor driving capabilities. To overcome this problem, a novel methodology has been taken, called hybrid technology comprising of Single Electron Transistor (SET) and MOSFET. The concept of hybridization of SET with MOSFET is introduced to overcome the problems of SET, like, low current drive, lack of room temperature operable technology and back ground charge effects. The co integration of SET (single electron transistor) and CMOS will bring the new evolution for the stunning growth in modern semiconductor industry.

• Developing a Multigate SE-FET hybrid circuit in 22nm technology which will

offer a viable solution to the problem of switching time degradation and provides ultra low power dissipation.

• Modeling of Multigate Single electron Transistor in wide temperature range

including the effects of physical parameters of the junction.  This temperature range not only creates a margin for additional heat dissipation but it is also compatible with many standard FET processes. This can make possible new design functionalities in a potential SET/FET hybrid platform sharing the same substrate.
