PICT is a complicated. Developed byApple as a common format i.e.

always available to Macintosh users.

Windows Formats

Windows uses Device-Independent Bitmaps

(DIB) as its common image file formats,

written as BMP files. DIBs can stand alone, they can be buried

within a Resource Interchange File Format

(RIFF) file.

Preferred file type for all multimedia

development design to bitmaps, MIDI

scores, & formatted text.

Windows formats used by Windowsdevelopers are DIB, BMP, PCX, & TIFF.

BMP Windows Bitmap file.

PCX developed for use in Z-Soft MS-DOSpaint packages; & can be opened & saved by

almost all MS-DOS paint software & desktop

TIFF Tagged Interchange File Format;

designed to be a universal bitmapped image

format.

Used in desktop publishing software.

DXF & IGS. DXF developed by AutoDesk as an ASCII-

based drawing interchange file for AutoCAD.

standard) for transferring CAD drawings.

Used in 3-D rendering & animation programs.
