Acquiring Eagle Palms
Become an Eagle Scout
Remain active in your Troop – at least 3 months after becoming an
Eagle Scout or after award of last Palm.
Earn (5) additional merit badges beyond the (21) required to reach
Eagle rank. **Merit Badges earned at any point since becoming a Boy Scout may be used to meet this
requirement** No Limit on the number of palms you can earn.
Bronze – First (5) merit badge after Eagle
Gold – Second (5) for a total of (10) merit badges
Silver - Finally , last (5) for a total (15) merit badge after Eagle

Check to make sure you are using the latest version
The workbook is in Adobe LiveCycle, must be saved to your computer and opened with Adobe Reader 9 or later. This enables the user to take advantage of the enhancements of expandable text boxes and importing images.
The workbook is essential to successful completion of project and
should be thoroughly read prior to beginning the project.
Recommended to place workbook in a 3 ring binder w/pages typed and in page protectors.

approvals BEFORE you start the project:
Meet with Project Beneficiary Representative
Discuss project proposal with Scoutmaster
Propose project idea to Troop Committee
Acquire all the necessary signatures for service project workbook
Prepare to present project proposal to Susquehanna Council

Schedule a meeting time and place
Wear complete uniform
Be Prepared to give detailed answers to questions regarding your service
project.
Ex. Materials needed, services required, fundraising plans, addressing
safety issues , tools, and acquiring permits
How you plan to give leadership throughout the project and
handle logistics

Fundraising is ALLOWED but not required May solicit funds for Materials May solicit for Services
**Consult the Guide to Safe Scouting with regard to any equipment use**
Donations may be collected from:Beneficiary, Scout, his Parents or Relatives, his Troop
or Chartered Organization, or from Parents or Members in his unit.
Anything else must receive approval from Council.

Someone who has the experience or knowledge in the type of project you are completing.
Serves as an advisor, consultant, and coach
Is a resource, encouraging the scout to fully plan his project, secure resources, and make wise decisions.
Uses positive adult association, logic, and common sense to help the scout reach a successful outcome.

Choose a Mentor
The term mentoring means:
“Wise and Trusted Counselor and Teacher.”
The Scout may choose any adult within the Troop who will help guide, assist, motivate, and counsel your development.
A mentor can help keep enthusiasm up and the advancement moving forward.
Can meet with the Scout and help him look at opportunities, possibilities, and pitfalls.
Offer practical advice that can be very supportive and lead to successfully completing the trail to Eagle.

Prepare Statement of Ambitions and Life Purpose This is a one page document giving a vision of your life, which may also highlight
achievements you have accomplished.
Gather recommendations - Begin to think about (3) individuals who know you personally and would be willing to provide a recommendation on your behalf.

Applying for your EAGLE SCOUT RANK continue
Complete the above – schedule your Scoutmaster conference.
All paperwork will then be forwarded to the Susquehanna Council
for approval and to schedule your Board of Review with a
District Representative.
Pass this Board of Review and your application will be sent to the National
BSA office to be stamped for their approval on the application.
