• This session will provide a brief overview of solutions that contribute toward respectful environments for our transgender students.

• Solutions in both modified and unmodified instances of Banner will be discussed.

Macalester College – UnmodifiedGender

• Using Supplemental Data Engine (SDE) field keyed off SPBPERS_SEX to store an Institutionally Recognized Gender. Legal Sex stored in SPBPERS_SEX. Initial Sex is being stored in a User Defined Field for Institutional Research.

• Pronouns not stored.

• Function developed to ease reporting: Code at www.macalester.edu/registrar/fz_get_gender.txt

• Best of Breed Technology Ecosystem: 45+ systems and processes beyond Banner.

Macalester College – UnmodifiedName

• All students will have exactly one Legal Name Type record.

• Transitioning students will have an Institutionally Recognized Name as their Current Identification record (SPRIDEN_CHANGE_IND is null) and the Full Legal Name (SPBPERS_LEGAL_NAME) will be populated.

• SPBPERS_PREF_FIRST_NAME rejected due to environment integration and middle name considerations.
