    WHAT IS HALO?

    The High Altitude Long Operation Network is abroadband wireless metropolitan area network, witha star topology.High Altitude Aeronautical Platform Station(HAAPS) is the technology used here.The HALO network will be located in theatmosphere, at an altitude miles above terrestrialwireless, but hundreds to thousands of miles belowsatellite networks.HAAPS means a solar powered unmanned airshipcapable of long endurance-may be of severalyears.It is an Extension of Airborne Internet.

    HALO Aircrafts contains network elements includingan ATM switch, spot beam technology, and multi-beam Technology, as well as transmitting andreceiving electronic Technology.The array Technology provides cellular-likecoverage of a large metropolitan area.The HALO network can be connected to non-HALOnetworks, such as ATM networks, Internet, andframe relay via an HG interworking unit (IWU).

    TYPES OF HAAPS

    Lighter than air HAAPS are kept stationary. Theyare probably air balloons floating in air i.e., Sky Station.

    Other type is Airplane based HAAPS which areflown in a tight circle i.e, HALO Aircraft and Helios.For broadcast application a simple antenna beamssignals to terminals on the ground.

    HALO Aircraft present a new layer in the hierarchyof wireless communication - a 10 mile tall tower instratosphere.It is in a level above rain shower and below meteor shower.HALO Network plane is the central node of thebroad band communication.The capacity is in the range of 10-100 Gb/s.Cell Coverage by Frequency Division Multiplexingusing Spot Beams Technology.

    ADVANTAGES

    Over satellite networkSatellite network have expensive high power user terminal and long propagation delay.

    System capacity is practically fixed.Establishing a new satellite is very expensive.

    Over Terrestrial networkTerrestrial networks have low look angles and

    complex infrastructure.They require many base stations that must beinterlinked with cables.

    P OWER SYSTEM AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Aircrafts power system consist of photovoltaiccell(Solar Energy) and a regenerative fuel cell.

    It eliminates the need of compressing air at highaltitude. Aircraft size increases with increasing altitude.If very light weight amorphous silicon arrays or any

    thin film.

    The HALO aircrafts will be operated in shifts fromregional airport.HALO aero plane is specially designed for carry thehub devices and they are having long lifetime.Look angle will be greater than 20 degree.So the network will available in a super metropolitan area(including urban, suburban andsurrounding rural area).

    OTHER PROPERTIES

    HALO network can interface with the local LANconnections.It can Interface between broadband protocols like

    ATM and SONET.The HALO network will provide access to the PSTNand become the backbone for internet services likeworld wide web.It can be used in maritime communications system .We are able to get some of the Direct BroadcastSatellite facilities.

    CONCLUSION AND FUTURE ISSUES HALO aircraft can be thought of as a very tall tower or

    very low altitude satellite.HALO networks can be introduced to highly promisingmarkets around the world on a selective basis."Continuous improvement" is a significant attribute of the HALO network.It enables Angel to meet the increasing expectations of present customers, and to open new markets requiringlesser capability by re-assigning earlier-generationhubs.Helios aircraft will be equipped with tele-communication equipment and stay airborne for sixmonths straight.
