Dear Friends,

O little town of Bethlehem

How still we see thee lie.

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep

The silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth

The everlasting Light.

The hopes and fears of all the years

Are met in thee tonight.

Our Christmas celebration has really only just

begun. The season of Christmas which began the

evening of December 24, continues through the

celebration of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

which takes place this year on January 11. This

weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. This Thursday, January 1, we

celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of

God (a holy day of obligation). We place all of our

hopes and fears, our lives, our families, and our world

in the hands of Christ, the Word made flesh. And as

we honor Mary, the woman of faith, disciple of the

Lord, and Mother of God, we are strengthened by the

prayers she offers to her Divine Son on our behalf.

This New Year will indeed be filled with both

hopes and fears. At times the darkness will seem

impenetrable and all encompassing, yet we know and

trust that we enter into the unknown with Christ by our

side. As members of the Body of Christ, we too have
