Packets will be available in school offices district wide on December 6. Please let friends and neighbors who may have upcoming school age students know packets will be ready. x Science Magnet Student Applications due to Mattos at time of Registration x Sibling Priority Registration will be Tuesday, January 15 through the following Wednesday, January 23 for siblings of current K-5 students. x Open Registration begins Thursday, January 24 for all other Kindergarten students, Transitional Kindergarten students, and new students in grades 1 – 6. x School Reservation Forms will be mailed home to parents of continuing students K - 5  x Reservation Forms are due back to school March 1 with required proof of residency x Continuing Inter District Student  Applications due May 16 – May 31 x New Student Inter District Applications considered June 1 – 19.  BASKETBALL TEAM REMINDER: Please remember to send a signed Dr. note stating that your student has had a physical within the last 12 months and are in good physical condition to play basketball. Notes must be on file in the office before the first day of practice. PAJAMA DAY AND WALK AND ROLL TO SCHOOL IS TOMORROW! Tomorrow (Thursday) is our monthly Walk and Roll to school day, as well as ASB sponsored PAJAMA DAY . Make sure to wear appropriate shoes for school, no slippers. Students are encouraged to walk or ride their bikes to show their school spirit. Ms. Maddon will be walking from the Elks lodge on Farwell with students and parents who want to meet up at 8 a.m. to start walking at 8:10 a.m. ATTENTION SCIENCE MAGNET PARENTS: Registration for new students will begin again this year in January, with siblings of current TK – 5 th grade students given sibling registration priority at their home schools January 15 th – 23 rd . When you pick up a registration packet at your home school (available now) let the office staff know that you have a sibling at Mattos for the Science Magnet Program to ensure your registration during the sibling priority period. TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE- DECEMBER 10 – 21: Student Council will be collecting new unwrapped toys to donate to children who are less f ortunate. Please drop off toys in the bin in front of the school. Our lost and found rack is overflowing with coats,  jackets, sweat shirts, lunch boxes, etc. waiting to be claimed. Please have your students check the lost and found rack outside of the cafeteria at lunch time for lost items. Unclaimed items will be donated Dec. 21.

FREE FLU SHOTS FOR BAY AREA KIDS:There are some very bad bugs among us. Fortunately,we have great news on how to keep them contained.Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Page FamilyFoundation, every child in the Bay Area, from ages 4through 18 can receive a free flu shot at participating

Target Pharmacy locations through the Shoo the Flu program. This will help protect not only our childrenagainst the ravages of influenza, but also everyone withwhom they come in contact. And having healthy kidsmeans higher rates of school attendance and lower ratesof the flu.TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN:On September 30, 2010, the Governor signed SB 1381establishing the Kindergarten Readiness Act which

changed the kindergarten entry age and established theTransitional Kindergarten Program. The new law wentinto effect for the current 2012-2013 school year andrequired students to be 5 years old by November 1,2012. Students must be 5 years old by October 1,

2013 for the 2013-2014 school year and by

September 1, 2014 for the 2014-2015 school year.In Fremont, we have established the “High Five”Transitional Kindergarten program that is currently

implemented in seven classrooms at four schools acrossthe district. These students are attending transitionalkindergarten this school year and will attend kindergartennext year at their home school. The curriculum is basedon the California Preschool Learning Foundations andaligned with the Kindergarten Standards.Enrollment packets will be available to parents for newtransitional kindergarten students at the home schoolbeginning December 6, 2012. Registration for 

transitional kindergarten with siblings in grades K-5

is January 15 - 23, 2013 at the home school. Registration for all qualifying transitional kindergartenstudents begins January 24, 2013, also at the homeschool. Attendance in the Transitional KindergartenProgram is not required, but is encouraged to helpstudents succeed the following year in a traditionalkindergarten classroom. Please contact your schooloffice if you have questions.

PTA NEWS Holiday Sing-Along: Please join us for the AnnualMattos Holiday Sing-Along on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. The firstgraders will be performing and then everyone will have achance to sing-a-long to some holiday favorites. This isfestive evening of music and holiday cheer here atMattos in the multi-purpose room with light refreshmentsafterwards.Spiritwear: Now that the weather is colder, Mattosbeanies and hoodies are on their way so stay tuned!
