Battle Creek Public Schools Inclimate Weather Procedu

Bad Weather - Will School be Closed?

    Heres What to Expect.

Snow, ice, fog, and other temporary emergencies somtimes force the closing of the districts schools, or create delay or cancellation of scheduled bus runs or the openinof the school day.

Before notifying the news media, BCPS administratiocarefully check road conditions and contact weather andpolice agencies. Decisions are generally made in the moing before 6:30 a.m. The district media announcements wsay which employee groups should report for work.

We regret the disruption to instruction and the inconvenience related by such events, however, during weathemergencies, the primary consideration will be the safety

and welfare of our students. We recommend that parents do the following:1. Check local radio or TV stations for the latest inform

tion: WBCK (930 AM), WKFR (103 FM), WBXX (95 FWNWN (98.5 FM), WQLR (106.5 FM), television channels 3, 41, and 8. DO NOT CALL THE TV OR RADSTATIONS.

    2. Review severe weather procedures with your childreand develop a family plan.

    3. Have a designated location where children should gothe bus runs are canceled after parents leave for work

    4. Discuss safety precautions for children waiting at bustops or walking to school and driver safety for studwith cars.

    5. Discuss with students the need for proper clothingwhen the temperature and/or wind chill is low.

    6. If school is open, you may still choose not to send yochildren to school based on circumstances in yourneighborhood. The final decision rests with the pareor guardian.
