It has been a pacey start to 2018 and we are faced with quite short terms between now and Easter. You might think teachers look forward to short terms but actually it is quite a challenge to fit everything in to five weeks. We do like our topics to be enhanced with trips and real experiences for our children; please be aware that we try to keep the cost to a minimum and it really helps us maintain these as part of our offer to children, if all parents contribute. In challenging mes financially we sll want our children to have opportunies to learn from experiences outside of the classroom. I keep a careful eye on the playgrounds and although we have reduced the amount of accidents that happen in school quite significantly, I am sll looking at ways to improve this further. From this term, first aid packs will be carried by all teaching assistants on playground duty so they can deal with minor incidents in the playground. More serious incidents will sll be dealt with by our senior first aid staff. Training for staff is updated regularly. We do try to keep you informed of accidents that happen in school through either a note (if the incident is minor) or a call or text if we feel it is appropriate. In the case of any child who reports an injury to the head, even if it is not apparent, we will call home to alert parents. Reception - Magenta Class

Year 4 - Azure Class

Rainbow - Green Class

Magenta have had a busy and exciting week. We are so excited about our new topic 'castles, princesses and princes'. We have started to make a castle role play area in our classroom and are making bunting, flags, jewelled necklaces, and shields. We have written labels and designed our own castles. We are very excited about the real princess who is hopefully visiting us next week! In phonics we have started phase 3 and are going to be learning some new sounds this term.

Azure class have made a terrific start to our new topic ‘good vibrations’. After an inspiring hands-on visit to the Horniman Museum, we learnt how to change the pitch and volume of some amazing instruments from around the world! Do you know what a talking drum is? Do you know why it is

called a talking drum? If you want to find out the answers to these questions or if you would like to find out more about other musical instruments from around the world, just ask one of our musical experts in Azure class!

Greetings from Green class!

We have accomplished our first week of our superheroes training academy. All nine recruits are “looking good and feeling fine“! I believe they are well on the way to becoming fully fledged social superheroes.

The children worked marvellously as a team all week and they came up with our group name:

The Strong Fast Superheroes Squad

(That’s SFSS for short).

Year 5 - Violet Class

Year 1 - Coral Class

We have had a fantastic start to the term so far in Coral class! We have begun our new topic ‘journey to Neverland’ and the children were surprised to see that some fairy visitors visited our classroom over the holidays. They straight away were busy making houses for the fairies so that they would have somewhere comfortable to stay if they visited again. They have also written fantastic letters to the fairies trying to persuade them to come back, telling them about the new houses they have made. Next week, we are continuing our journey through Neverland and will be discovering and learning about pirates along the way. The children will be using their scientific skills to decide the best waterproof material for a pirate hat. Hopefully we will manage to keep dry!

Year 2 - Saffron Class In Saffron class we've had a busy start to the new term. To launch our topic on transport, we were given a range of materials and asked to make a moving vehicle. Here are a few of our creations. We tested

them and, with a gentle push, they moved across the room. We've also learned about some transport from the past, such as omnibuses, sedan chairs and Viking longboats. We're really looking forward to discovering more when we visit the London Transport Museum next week.

This term, in year 5, our topic is ‘Victorians – vile or victorious?’ Luckily, our teachers planned for us to go on a trip to the Ragged School Museum in London, where we will learn about Victorian schools. On Monday 8th January, Lavender and half of Indigo Class went on the trip whilst Violet class and the other half of Indigo class stayed (because we go on Wednesday

10th January). Whilst the other children were on the trip, we began our D&T project – to design and build a Penny Farthing. So far, we have created a historical timeline of the bicycle and then we compared it to a 21st century bike, describing the similarities and the differences between the two.
