My husband and I purchased an old home in Northern New York State from two el-
derly sisters. Winter was fast approaching and I was concerned about the house's lack
of insulation. "If they could live here all those years, so can we!" my husband confident-
ly declared. One November night the temperature plunged to below zero, and we woke
up to find interior walls covered with frost. My husband called the sisters to ask how
they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief conversation, he hung up. "For the
past 30 years," he muttered, "they've gone to Florida for the winter."

FROM THE MANAGER’S DESK
MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY HANUKKAH!
Strawberry Ridge, along with your HOA, will once again sponsor the annual Home Alone Christmas Feast. Each year we provide a nice dinner free of charge and the op-portunity for fellowship with others who find themselves alone at Christmas. Please understand this is meant only for our residents and not extended family members. There has been some confusion as to who can be invited so I hope this clears up any questions. I would like to thank Tim Mosher for agreeing to take on the task of prepar-ing the meal which I’m sure will be as delicious as our Thanksgiving Feast. The 2016 coupons will be available after December 20th at the office. Please be sure and include the appropriate coupon each month so that your account will be properly credited, thanks! The staff of Strawberry Ridge and I hope you have a blessed and safe Holiday.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY HANUKKAH!
Wow! It’s the Christmas season already…. Where does the time go? In the past month, we hope you have enjoyed having Elvis in the Ridge for an evening, and our homemade Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the fixings and joined us in register-ing your golf carts and bicycles. But now, our Christmas trees are decorated and people’s yards are all lit up with great holiday displays which make it a joy to ride through the Park. Our Strawberry Singers are hosting their annual Christmas concert, the Red Hat Ladies are planning our annual golf cart Christmas caroling, and many of our clubs and organizations are holding Christmas parties for members. And, of course, this is a time we all enjoy special family times.
Your Homeowner’s Association invites all residents to an annual Christmas Dinner at 2 PM to share a great meal and good times with friends and neighbors. And let’s all plan to top off our season with a fabulous New Year’s Party. We are featuring an 8 piece band, “Smokey and the Angels, decorations, noisemakers, a balloon drop and a champagne toast all for $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Tables can be reserved by purchasing 8 tickets. Tickets are available on Wednesday evenings before Bingo, and at posted hours at the Homeowners Office at the Activity Center or you may call Rose Panella at 662-9682 or Jean Di Beneditto at 438-5166. As usual, set-ups will be available, but bring what you are drinking and snacking on.

http://strawberryridgecomputerclub.blogspot.com/
It’s December, and we are already in the holiday spirit here at StrawBerry Ridge. And that means many people are creat-ing annual newsletters, sending family pictures to friends, and checking in to see how the rest of the world is doing. We work with computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. We love a challenge, so bring your problems to us. We all have some-thing to offer, and there is no fee to be in our club.
RESIDENT TELEPHONE DIRECTORY By: Carol Tate 643-1015 [email protected]
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL RESIDENTS
The new Telephone Directories will be delivered to each house later this month. Please help the volunteers that deliver the new books by having a clip or a safe place to leave the books. We do not leave books at empty houses so if you don’t re-ceive a book, please let me know. Also, let me know if you need an extra book for your clubs.

CAUGHT BEING GOOD
December, 2015
Many good things occur in Strawberry Ridge every single day. Most of these acts are unrecognized and appreciated by all but the individuals involved. This is the time and place to recognize these acts! Have you caught someone doing some-thing good or helpful to another that should be acknowledged? It need not be a really big thing, just something that is wor-thy of notice and appreciation. Please call or email any Homeowners Association Board member or email [email protected] with the name of the person and what they have done that is special. We will acknowledge them in this space.
This month, Ron and Judy Ringstaff were caught being good and very thoughtful. Their neighbors report, that during an unexpected Friday evening black-out in their section of the Ridge, they took action. As they realized their side of the street still had power, they went to neighbors and friends insuring that all was well and asking if they needed anything, they checked in on several people and even offered their home for those “in the dark”. A neighbor commented that this was just like them, “always out doing something nice” Many thanks to you, Judy and Ron, for looking out for neighbors and making Strawberry Ridge a great place to live!
SRHA MEMBERSHIP Rose Panella Membership Chairperson 662-9862
As of this month, we now have a total of 142 paid members. It is painless to join. The cost to join is $6.00 for one year membership which breaks down to 50 cents per month. If you join for three years, the membership is $15.00 and comes to 42 cents per month. Also, if you join for 1 year now, the membership will expire on 3/31/16. In either case, a new appli-cation must be completed. If you need an application you will find a folder outside of the HOA office with applications in it or you can give me a call and I will bring one to your home. Once you have completed the form, the form and money can be dropped in the slot in the HOA door in the event no one is there. I do go in and out of the office quite frequently and will get your form. Once I have it, I will type your new membership card and deliver it to your door. Remember, March 2016 we will be having a vote regarding the board members whose time is up and only the people who
are paid members will be able to vote. If anyone would like to run to be a board member, you can do so but you must be a
paid member of the association. The last day you can join to vote is January 31st., 2016. Think about it.
FOR ANY RESIDENT, 62 AND OLDER, WHO MAY QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE WITH FOOD.
Please mark your calendar for December 4, 2015, between 9 AM and 4PM. Maria Bridgewater, with the Hillsborough County Aging Services, SNAP program, will be here to meet with you privately by appointment. She will be at the Activity Center, in the back room (next to the kitchen). To make your private appointment to talk with Ms. Bridgewater, please call her at 813-635-8066. The HOA encourages everyone who may benefit from this program to make the call.

STRAWBERRY RIDGE CRAFT CLUB Terry Bobb 661-3052
On behalf of the members of the Craft Club, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We are all working on our projects for the 2016 Craft Fair which will be held in the fall. A date has not been confirmed but I will hopefully have the date for the next printing of the Toppings. We already have reservations for tables and they will again be $ 7.00 each. Be sure to get your table early. Several of the ladies have been working on afghans and blankets for the babies and toddlers at Beth El Mission in Wimau-ma. On September 15th, we delivered 30 afghans to the mission. The children love them and the bright colors. We will be meeting each Monday from 1 PM to 3 PM in the Ceramics Shop. Anyone who likes to craft is more than wel-come to join us. We don’t have any officers, dues or rules. We do bring a quarter each week which funds our Christmas party in December. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.

VETERANS CLUB By: Terry M. Bobb, Secretary
The next meeting of the Veterans Club will be on Monday, December 7th at 7:00 PM in the main room of the Activity Cen-ter. Following our meetings, we have coffee & donuts, during our time spent sharing the comradery and “swapping” of sto-ries of our military experiences. Please join us for this time. The Election of Officers will be held at this meeting. It is most important the membership attend this meeting. Sergeant at Arms, C. Yoder is resigning effective December 31, 2015. In addition, I will be stepping down effective December 31, 2015. I have held this position for the past 14 years. I also have had to relinquish the responsibilities of the collection of goods for the Haley Cove Community Living Center. Many of our members have passed away, moved away or their health does not permit them to attend the meetings or re-main involved in the functions. But sadly, some of the members just don’t participate. We have had some new members join the club in the last couple of years and after the first night that they attend, we never see them again.
At our recent Veterans Day Program, we had 10 members in addition to the current officers. We received comments from many of the residents about the lack of participation. This is your club. If you are not happy with the operation of the club, it is your responsibility to come to the meeting and voice your opinion. All residents of Strawberry Ridge who have served in the Armed Forces are welcome to become members of the Veter-ans Club. This also includes member of the Armed Forces of our allied nations. If you are a veteran but not yet a member of the Strawberry Ridge Veterans Club, please feel free to visit with us on our regular meeting night. If you have ques-tions, please feel free to call me.

HOLIDAY AWARENESS EAT TO REVERSE AND PREVENT DIABETES
By Dale Marie Kersch CPT BY LOSING WEIGHT and lowering your blood sugar and your resistance to insulin, you can put your disease in reverse. Dealing with diabetes can feel overwhelming at times. Bringing the disease under control is an important task. There is no one better qualified to do it than you. (Your doctor can prescribe medicines if you need them, but he can't cure or even manage the disease for you.) Losing weight and proper nutrition is key. Step 1. Multiply your current weight by 10. For example, if you weigh 175 pounds, you get 1,750 calories. This is ap-
proximately how many calories your body needs to function when it's idle. Step 2. Fill in roughly how many calories you're burning through physical activity, rate yourself: *If you're totally seden-
tary, give yourself a 300 *If you're moderately active, give yourself a 500 *If you're very active, give yourself a 700 Step 3. Add the result of Step 2 to Step 1. For example, if your step 1 number is 1,750 calories and you're sedentary,
add 300 to get a total of 2,050 calories per day. This is the number of calories to stay at your current weight.
Want to lose a pound a week?? Aim to subtract 500 calories from that number every day
Burn more? MOVE! See Dale for fitness classes to burn more calories!
FMO Susan Ambrose, District 10 President
The Federation of Manufactured Home Owners of Florida (FMO) is hosting a district meeting at Strawberry Ridge January 13, 2016 from 10-12. Coffee and donuts will be provided. There will be a short presentation by a speaker. All residents as well as residents and Board members from other communities are welcome to attend. We welcome anyone who would like to join the FMO and unite with the other 18,000+ members across Florida to keep our state legislators on track con-cerning legislation pertaining to manufactured home owners and owners of MHPs. There are a lot of changes in the 723 state statue that we as homeowners need to be aware of in 2016. Someone needs to continue to "watch the hen house" and our pocketbooks.
Apathy pertaining to you local HOA and FMO usually comes back to bite you in your wallet. Please help us to maintain our 55+ lifestyle so our seniors and soon to be seniors can enjoy their retirement, our communities and the homes we have worked so hard for. Look forward to seeing all of you at the meeting.

BINGO NEWS
Wednesday night BINGO is alive and thriving here at Strawberry Ridge. When it briefly appeared that there was no one to step forward, volunteer their precious time and energy, and lead this popular weekly event, several residents did just that. They stood up, volunteered, and are now leading BINGO. Dee Costoso, Peg Swaverly, and Linda Reimert are apprentic-ing and learning the Bingo “ropes” and we thank each one of them. In addition, many others have stepped forward to sell tickets before the games and to provide desserts and snacks for our intermission. After each night’s BINGO, a report is posted showing the Bingo receipts and payouts given. Pay-outs have been exceed-ing $300 each week. Payouts are always 95% or more of the monies received and ALL reserved Bingo funds must, by Florida law, be used only to pay for Bingo expenses (for example, Bingo machine repair and maintenance, paper bingo papers, etc.).
Come join us for an inexpensive evening of fun and luck every Wednesday evening. If you are an experienced Bingo play-er or a novice, we will welcome you. As usual, cards sales begin at 5:45 PM and end at 6:45 PM and the games begin at 7:00 PM.

FINAL UPDATE ON TURKEYS FOR METROPOTIAN MINISTRIES By: Barbara Phillips….681-5188
On November 18th Dave Snodgrass, Joyce Phelps, Barbara Edwards, Fred Lumpkins, and I picked up 240 turkeys from Walmart on Litha Pinecrest and delivered them to Metropolitan Ministries on Palm Ave in Tampa. Due to the generosity of all the wonderful residents here at the Ridge, our total monies collected was $1,826.00, which made the average turkey cost $7.61 each. Again we were able to break the previous years total number of birds delivered. I want to say “THANK YOU ALL” so very much for contributing to this successful effort toward helping others to have something to thankful for this Thanksgiving Day. God willing, we can do the dame next year.
