Our exterior upper panels are made of fiberglass and exterior side lower panels are made of thermoplastic panels. This design allows for simple repairs without dismantling the bus. The fiberglass material withstands severe use, is lighter than metal and prevents corrosion. These are the same as in the previous order. Please refer to Mandatory RFA Attachment M10. [METRO's colors shall be applied using a high-solids polyurethane finishing system designed to provide excellent gloss and durability that is formulated to meet commercial vehicle requirements.

Painted surfaces shall have a minimum 95 gloss and an orange peel rating of 7 or more on the ACT Test Panels Technologies orange peel standard panels. Wet sanding and polishing is not acceptable for any repairs.]

The Proposer would like to clarify that our gloss level is 80 and orange peel is a maximum of 5, without sanding or polishing. The Proposer will also apply the same paint process, resulting in the same paint quality as provided in previous order. We request your approval.

The air intake panel is installed with 6 low profile button screws. Theses screws have a head thickness of 3 mm (0.12 in) including the washer so it does not protrude significantly, but are visible. The air intake panel does not need to be removed frequently so it has not been made as a door. The screws give access inside the panels. These screws have been selected to be aesthetically pleasing and non-protruding. We request your approval.

This is the same standard test applied on previous orders.

SECTION_2.1.2.10 Fire Protection_ PAGE NO._36_ PARAGRAPH NO.


[METRO requires that the passenger and engine compartments be separated by a bulkhead(s), which shall be a firewall. Only necessary openings shall be allowed in the firewall and these shall be fireproofed. Piping through the bulkhead shall have copper, brass, or other fireproof fittings sealed at the firewall. Wiring may pass through the bulkhead only if fireproof bulkhead connectors are provided to prevent fire propagation through the firewall. Standard fire resistant and UL rated bulkhead connectors are approved and shall also bewaterproof. On an exception basis only, wiring which cannot use a connector may pass through a conduit using fire retarding putty rated to at least 2000°F.]

The wall separating the passenger compartment from the engine compartment is built of stainless steel 14 GA (1.9 mm) thick panels and used as firewall. Stainless steel structure and sheets are used as firewall. As per previous builds and accepted configuration, we use Endothermic Firestop Caulking to seal the passageways of all piping going through the firewall and the resin impregnated wood blocks in the upper section where the coolant lines and electrical harness pass from the engine compartment to the baselight. Bulkhead fittings are not used and would require a major redesign resulting in reduced access for maintenance. Please refer to Attachment 2.1.2.10 - Fire Protection. This is the same configuration as per the previous order. We request your approval.

There are several hoisting and towing points on the vehicle. One of these is the tow eyes, for front towing. They are stored in the front compartment under the dash, near the operator. They need to be screwed into the holes at the front of the vehicle. They are designed ONLY for towing the vehicle for very short distances while its wheels are on the ground. Other hoisting and towing point are fixed underneath the bus structure. Please refer to the attachment of Mandatory RFA Attachment M6 for more details. We request your approval.

[The bus shall be equipped with airline quick disconnects (GladHands or airline quick disconnects), hard mounted at front and rear of the bus. Quick disconnects shall mate with Bendix P/N 278852 installed on METRO’s current wreckers. The coupling shall have a removable filter screen at its mouth opening and will be protected with a dummy coupling tethered to the bus frame.]

We request approval to provide standard connectors (such as Parker Hannifin Tru-Flate with a check valve) instead of quick disconnects (Glad Hands or airline quick disconnects), same as installed on the previous order. These connects do not mate with Bendix P/N 278852 connectors. A removable filter screen is not provided. Couplers have a one way check valve between the air supply tank and the quick disconnect to prevent loss of air. The current location behind the front bumper does not provide enough space for Glad Hand connectors. A choice of different connector types are available and can be discussed at the preproduction meeting.
