January Selvages Christmas Tree OrnamentJanuary Selvages Christmas Tree OrnamentJanuary Selvages Christmas Tree OrnamentJanuary Selvages Christmas Tree Ornament From LynBrown.com

The First in our 2014 Ornament of the Month Series

Supplies: 7” X 10” Base Fabric (Muslin or ?)

At least 18 Selvages Edges 1 1/2” by at least 7”

10” Length of Ribbon for hanging loop

Buttons for star at top of tree

More Buttons and Lace to embellish as desired

Assembly: Note: Pick a mix of selvage edges... With and without writing, white or print to

the edge. And don't leave out those fringed edges!

Making The Selvage "Fabric":

1. Lay one selvage at one short end of your muslin base fabric

aligning the selvage edge with the raw edge of the muslin.

2. Position a second selvage strip so it's selvage edge covers

the raw edge of the first strip by about 1/4". Stitch along the

selvage edge of second strip through all layers.

3. In the same manner, position a third strip over the second

and stitch.

4. Continue in this way to cover the entire muslin base.

5. Using template given, cut two tree shapes from your sel-

vage fabric, following diagram at right. It is important to have

the templates oriented so the print on the selvages is right side up!

6. If desired, "decorate" your tree a bit with embellishments of buttons

and lace, staying away from the seam allowances.

7. Place the trees selvage sides together and stitch around, leaving

an opening to turn.

8. Turn right sides out. Stuff through opening. Slip stitch open-

ing closed.

9. Stitch ribbon to top of tree to form a hanging loop.

Cover edges of ribbon with buttons.

10. If desired, continue to "decorate" your tree with

embellishments of buttons and lace.

February Heart Christmas Tree OrnamentFebruary Heart Christmas Tree OrnamentFebruary Heart Christmas Tree OrnamentFebruary Heart Christmas Tree Ornament From LynBrown.com - The Second in our 2014 Ornament of the Month Series

Supplies:

10” Fabric Square

24" of Rick Rack (I used the small RR I had on hand but any size would do)

12" of White Ribbon

Stuffing

Assembly:

1. Cut out two hearts using the Template given.

2. Starting at the bottom of the heart, baste the RR in place on the right side of one

of the hearts so the edge of the RR is at the edge of the heart as shown. Note that

I ran my stitches just to catch the "tips" of the RR about an1/8" (might be larger

if using larger RR) in.

3. Fold the ribbon length in half and pin in place at the cleft of the heart and the

ribbon laying against the heart as shown. Note that I placed my ribbon with the

fold at the cleft so I was able the tie a bow. The other option is to place the raw

edges at the cleft for just a loop without the bow.

4. Next place the two hearts Rights Sides Together with the basted one on top and

stitch a 1/4" seam (might be larger if using larger RR), leave opening to turn.

5. Turn and stuff. Slip stitch the opening.

April Row Houses Christmas Tree OrnamentApril Row Houses Christmas Tree OrnamentApril Row Houses Christmas Tree OrnamentApril Row Houses Christmas Tree Ornament From LynBrown.com

The Fourth in Our 2014 Ornament of the Month Series

This ornament is just Fun and not too hard to make. The sample shown hasn’t

been stitched yet and it will be even yummy-ier when it is! But here’s what

you need…

5” X 7” Batting and Backing

Assorted Scraps

You’ll also need 10” - 12” or ribbon for hanging.

Assembly:

1. Trace the whole outer shape of the ornament onto the fusible twice. One will be your base, one

will be the backing.. Also trace three gables (The triangles at the top of each house), three doors,

six windows and two only house fronts (The red on either side in the sample). The middle house

is the base fabric (Dark Green in the sample.)

2. The two house fronts go on either side of the base unit. Fuse them in place. Add the Gables. If a

little of the base fabric shows tween the gable and the house front, consider it the Gutter or an Ar-

chitectural Detail!

3. Fuse the windows and doors in place. Position the Row House atop the Batting piece and fuse in

place. Trim. Position the backing and before fusing, tuck the hanging ribbon at the peak of each

of the outer gables as shown. Fuse.

4. Stitch everything in place. Use a straight stitch or a little zigzag, catching the ribbon.
