A resume and curriculum vitae (CV) are NOT the same. Highlights of resumes:
One page is typically preferred for entry level
Font size no smaller than 11-12 pt. Header includes name, address, phone, and professional email
address, Linkedin profile address (optional).
Spacing, headings are in alignment and consistent on the page.
Personal information such as age, marital status, health status,
etc., should not be included on the resume. Salary requirements, hobbies and names of references are not
stated on the standard resume.
Always check for grammar, typos and correct spelling
Research It takes only 10-15 seconds for
someone to form an opinion of you.
Based on Physical appearance Vocal tone, articulation and rate
of speech , (energy and presence) Previous brand knowledge from
social networks or professional contacts ( personal network)
Be confident, not familiar.
Understand the processOnline application or email resume?Phone, In-person, Skype?One-on-one? Panel?
Practice typical interview questionsTell me about yourself. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?Do you work better with a team or alone? Why are you interested in working here?What are your greatest strengths? What are your weaknesses?How do you handle conflict or difficult people?How did your education and/or other experience prepare you for this position? Why should I select you for this position?
Get a good night’s rest before the interview. Print extra copies of your resume the night before. Wear conservative attire no matter what the job or industry. Double check the location, time, date and the name of your
contact. Arrive at least 5-10 minutes early. Know how offer a proper
handshake. Maintain good eye contact, show interest during the
questioning and when answering questions. Be authentic but not familiar.
Have 2-3 questions prepared to ask the interviewer. Once the interview is over, extend your hand for a
handshake. Thank the interviewer. Ask for a business card or get interviewers email address. Within 24 hours, send a handwritten thank you note.
