Exterior suburban street.Raj is walking to /anʼs house to call forhim. Its a school day Norma exits the frontgate, in a hurry to get Siobhan to school.

In the street on the way to school.There are other kids around. an is eating apop tart.

In the playground. Before school. Kidsplaying, standing around.A bell rings. The kids go into school. anspeaks to Siobhan as he passes her

voice—over: SiobhanI'd just started juniors, Raj and Ian were inyear 6. I liked Ian being there, I'd have felta bit lost if I'd been all on my own. And henever pretended he didnʼt know who Iwas, like some brothers do with their littlesisters.

Raj doesnʼt reply he has seen the gangapproaching. They stop throwing stonesand sit very still, The gang hasnʼt seenthem yet. The gang gets nearer but theyare preoccupied and pass them by Darrenis lagging behind and he sees them. Hemight have a go at them, he thinks aboutit. Hes finishing a can of Coke.

Gang memberCome on, Daze.He catches the gang up, they can wait, hethrows the can in the general direction ofthe boys.

Raj and an get up and walk away in theopposite direction to the gang along thestream bank then through their localstreets.

On the way back from football ~ lateafternoon, early evening. A quiet street,an is lagging behind.

anI was rubbish, they'|l never pick me.Raj'Course, they will.anYeah, right...I didn't notice anyone talkingto me about how promising I was.

The gang come round the corner They arejousting and pushing a small AfricanCaribbean boy Haydn.

DarrenWhats the big hurry?HaydnI want to go homeDarrenHe wants to go home to see his mummy,everybody now...Ah..

The gang join in. Raj and Ian see what ishappening but they keep their headsdown and watch as the gang push Haydndown the street. Haydn breaks free andruns off with Darren and the rest hard onhis heels. They continue down the streetuntil they get to Rajas house. Raj’s mum,Kuldeep comes out of the house to goshopping and sees them.

The next morning. Kids, including Raj andlane, passing the railings in front of theschool. A po/ice car pulls into the car parkand they have to wait as it passes.

voice-over: SiobhanThe next morning it was our turn for thehall, and miss had promised us drama. Butwe had to stay in class and wait for MrsRoberts our head teacher. Someone haddone something wrong, which meant we

all looked guilty. But at least it wasn't justus, they were talking to everyone.

The head and PC Turner are now in Rajand lans classroom. Darren and some ofhis gang are there. Mrs RoberTs is speakingto an attentive class. PC Turneg thecommunity policeman, is standing at herside.

Mrs RobertsAs some of you probably know, last nightthere was a very serious incident involvingHaydn Walters. So serious that PoliceConstable Turner has asked me if he canspeak to you this morning. Listen, carefullyto what he has to say.

Same classroom. PC Turner is speaking. MrsRoberts is watching.

PC TurnerHaydn managed to get away, but he wasso frightened he didn't dare go home incase they came after him again. So he hid.All on his own. All night long. The goodnews is we found him, and he's safe. Andbelieve me, whoever thinks it's funny to

DarrenWhat d'you mean? You have to.

IanMy mum knows his mum.

DarrenBut he's a Pack.Ian says nothing and tries to move on.

voice-over: SiobhanGrown ups forget what it's like to be little,or they only remember the best bits.Mostly it's okay, but some of itʼs no fun atall. They give you all this advice, like if youdon't want to be with someone, all youhave to do is walk away. They should try it,itʼs not as easy as it sounds.

Ian is bringing a bag of chips. Veryunhappy Darren and the gang arewaiting. an gives him the chips and hischange. Darren opens the chips and offershim one. Ian takes a chip and turns to go.Darren takes hold of his shoulder andprevents him leaving. Other gang membersloiter for their share.
