Helpful Hints

• Look for Additive Inverse Property (sum is 0)• Add the negatives together first • Add the positives together first• Find numbers that are easy for you (such as

things that add to 10)

Commutative Property

• Allows you to add in any order as long as the problem is all addition

Associative Property

• Allows you to regroup numbers by putting parenthesis around them.

• You may use the Associative Property when there is all addition in the problem
