Then, aft r speaking in many and varied ways through the prophets. "now at last in these days God has spoken to us in His Son" (Heb. 1: 1-2). For He sent His Son, the eternal Word, \\·h) enlightens all men, so that He might dwell among men and tell hem of the innermost being of God (see John !: 1-18). Jesus 'hrist, therefore, the Word made flesh, was sent as "a man to men." H "speaks the words of God" (John 3;34). and completes the work of salvation which His Father gave J lim to do (see John 5:36; John 17:4). 0 see Jesus is to ~e Ilis Father (John 14:9). For this reasor Jesus perfected revelation by fulfilling it through his whole work of making Himself present and manifesting Himself: through His words and deeds, His signs and wonders. but especially through His death and glorious resurrection from the ead and fillal sending of the Spirit of truth. M0reo er He confirmed with divine testimony what revelation proclaimed. that God is with us to free us from the darkne. s of sin and death, and to raise us up to life eternal. The 'hri tian dispensation, therefore, as the new and ddinitive covenant, will never pass away and we now await no furlhcr new pub ic revelation before the glorious manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ (see I Tim. 6: 14 and Tit. 2: 13). - Dei Verbull1. 4

St. Pius X Catholic Church is pleased

to participate in an important national climate change education event.

In celebration of the Feast of t. rane's the St. Pius X Catholic Church will join hundreds of other Catholic parishes, schools and colleges in a program Melting Ice. Mending Creation: A Catholic Approach to C'limate Change. The program highlights th Pontifical Acadcm of Sciences 's Working Group (PAS) statement, Fate o{Mountain GLaciers in the Anthropocene, combined with viewing a "TED" talk by James Balog, the science photographer behind the documentary film Chasing Ice, who documented some of the most vivid evidence yet of climate change.

In their declaration, PAS CJUS on aLl people and nations to recognize the serious and potentially irreversible impacts of gLobal warming caused by the anthropogenic emissions ofgreenhouse gases and other pollutants, and by changes in forests. wetlands, grasslands. and other land lIses.

St. Pius X Church will offer this program on October 5 at 6pm at the lower level meeting room. A facilitated

discussion of th film and about steps you can take in response--ones that are based in authentic Catholic teaching.

The event provides a concret example of responding to Pope Francis' words urging us to make care for Creation and

care for the poor and vulnerable a significant part of our Catholic witness: Let us protect Christ in ollr lives, so that we

can protect others, so tharlt'e can proteer crealion! (March 19,2013)

The program is sponsor d by the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change. a national Catholic partnership organization

whose members include. among others, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. For more information, about this

event, contact Carol Parowski 539-4283 or caroJparow [email protected] and visit: catholicclimatecovenant.org

Catholic Climate Covenant Care lor re"rlOli (,,,,,, for the Poor

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND I ORMATIO

Pope Francis, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and the .S. Bishops recognize the human causes of climate change and understand it as a moral issue grounded in ancient teachings-to "cultivate and care for" God's good gift of Creation

(Genesis 2: 15)-and as part of our Christian witness is today. They calion people of faith and good will to address this challenge.

This call has added urgency, as predictions of a warming planet are now becoming reality: people around the world are already experiencing increased drought. wildfire, f1ooding, food and water stresses, disease, and population displacement. These phenomena make it much more difficult to live up to our commitments to protect human life and

dignity and assist th poor and vulnerable-who are disproportionately harmed by environmental degradation and climate change-with our time and our treasure.

CLIMATE eRA GE

• Blessed Pope John Paul II: "The danger of serious damage to land and sea, and to the climate, flora and fauna, calls for a profound change in modern civilization's typical consumer life-style, particularly in the richer countries" (/999 World Day 0/Peace Message, , '0. 10).

• Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI: "Preservation of the environment, promotion of sustainable development and particular attention to c] imate change are matter of grave cone rn for th entire human family" (Letter 0/His Holiness Benedict XVI to the Ecumenical Patriarch a/Constantinople on the Occasion of the Seventh Symposium 0/ the Religion, Science and the Environment Alovement).

• U.S. Conference of 'atholic Bishops: ""In facing climate chana-e. what we already know requires a response; it cannot be easily dismissed. ignificantlevels of scientific consensus---even in a situation with less than full certainty. where the consequences of not acting are serious---:iustifies. indeed can obi igate, our taking action intended to avert potentia I dangers. In other words, if enough evid nce indicates that the present course of action could jeopardize humankind's well-being, prudence dictates taking mitigating or preventative action" (Global Climate Change: A Plea/or Dialogue. Prudence and the Common Good).

NEW EF ORTS WITHIN THE U.S. CATHOLIC COMMU TV

In 2006, the Catholic '0 lition on limate Change was launched with the support of the U.S. Conference of Catholic

ishops (USCCB). The Catl olic Coalition onlimat Change supports and complem nts USCCB's Department of

Justice, Peace and Human Development and the bishops' Environmental Justice Prooram.

A central proj ct of the Coalition is the Catholic Climate Covelllwt: The St. Franci!; Pledge to Care/()r Cremiol1 ami tlte Poor by which Catholic individuals, families, parishes, dioceses, schools and other organizations comrnit to:
