19. ABSTRACT (Continue on reverse if necessary and identify by block number)Current trends in tank development require a reduction in the number of crew membersnecessary to fight and maintain the vehicle for extended periods of time. Doctrinally, the capabilities and mission profiles of future tanks remain independent of crew sizeor configuration. This four-man analysis establishes a baseline by enumerating the tasksnecessary to operate the current ABRAMS system. Its intent is to facilitate alignmentof the MAMP technologies with the required crew operational tasks, so that the reducedcrew can maintain the same level of performance as a four-man tank.

Summary
Results are presented of a TACOM in-house initiative detailing theduties and responsibilities of each crewmember in a four-man tank. TheAbrams series main battle tank was used as a baseline for operationaltasks. Typical SOP's and personal experience were then applied totactical doctrine to complete the analysis.

Introduction
SUBE: Thds report is a compendium of the tasks, duties, andresponsibilities each crewmnmber in an Abrams series tank is expected toperform.
PUROSE: The study was conducted as part of an in-house crew reductioneffort at TACCM. Its purpose is to establish an operational baseline ofthe required tasks each crewmember mist perform in order to effectivelyoperate a tank in a combat envirorment.
The results presented are intended for use as a tool to evaluate emergingtechnologies as they apply to crew work load reduction.
SCOPE: The scope of this study lists the irdividual technical and tacticalduties performed by the Loader, Driver, Gunner, Tank Commander, and acomposite of the Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant.
Each section covers a specific crew memrber starting with the lowestranking (the Loader) and ending with the Platoon Leader/Sergeant. Thesections are further organized by grouping the tasks into operationalfamilies which can be found urder every crewmember who takes part in theoperation.
It is inportant to note however, that although crew tasks are arrangedaccording to duty positions, each crewmeber must be able to perform therequired tasks of all his subordinates.
