ScheduleDEBATING PLAN

Preliminary Rounds

Each team has 3 rounds of preliminary debates before lunch consisting of :

■      One impromptu debate (50 minute preparation time)

■      Two prepared debates (Motions released 2 weeks before tournament)

Quarter-Finals

The top 24 teams will make the break into the Quarter Finals in three divisions: Gold, Silver and Bronze according to position. Positions 1-  8 Gold Quarters, positions 9-16 Silver quarters, 17-24 Bronze Quarters - all after lunch. Teams will have 50 minutes to prepare for an impromptu quarter final motion.

Semi-Finals

The final debate of the day will be 3 levels of semi finals (12 teams involved) and the day will end with 3 sets of grand finalists determined. Teams will have 40 minutes to prepare a motion that was released 2 weeks before the event with the initial draw.

Grand Finals

The Grand Final will be held on May 19th at SIS in 3 divisions between the semi final winners from May 9th.

SCHEDULE

In order to make the Preliminaries day run as smoothly as possible, each team will receive a personalized schedule including assigned room numbers for debates and preparation along with a map of the school on registration on the day. The general schedule is as follows:

8:00 to 8:15am - Arrival and Registration

8:15 to 8:30am - Welcome announcements

8:30 to 9:20am - Round 1 Impromptu Preparation

9:20 to 10:20am - Round 1 Impromptu Debate

10:20 to 11:20am - Round 2 Prepared Debate: THW permit schools to fundraise by selling advertising space on their campuses.

11:20 to 12:20pm - Round 3 Prepared Debate: This House believes football clubs
