The Release of the DovesA holiday remembrance for those who have lost a loved one.

The Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home continues a yearly holiday tradition of respect and remembrance with the release of white doves from a basket at the funeral home located on the corner of Camp Road and Route 5 in Hamburg, at 2 PM on Sunday, November 24, 2013.

Individual family representatives wishing to take part in this community event to remember their loved ones will be allowed to release biodegradable balloons in their memory.

There will also be a special gift for all adult participants who attend the event. The Hospice Foundation will give a presentation. Music will be performed by “Heart to Heart” and Cory Gallagher. Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be provided.

Ingredients:Cookie:no-stick cooking spray 1 cup (or 1 stick) butter flavor all-vegetable shortening 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 40 to 45 chocolate-covered miniature peanut butter cup Glaze:1 teaspoon butter flavor all-vegetable shortening 1 cup (6 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

Preparation Directions:Heat oven to 375ºF. Coat baking sheets lightly with no-stick cooking spray. Combine shortening, brown sugar, granulated sugar and peanut butter in bowl with electric mixer; beat at medium speed until well blended. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, bak-ing soda and salt in medium bowl. Mix into shortening mixture at low speed until just blended. Form rounded spoonfuls of dough around each peanut butter cup. Enclose entirely. Place 2 inches apart on baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until cookies are browned. Remove immediately to cooling rack. Com-bine shortening, chocolate chips and peanut butter in microwave-safe measuring cup. Microwave 1 minute, stir, and repeat until smooth. Dip cookie tops in choc-olate and let stand until chocolate is set.

Hang a mixed-cone garland under a fireplace mantel or around a door-way. Connect different types of pinecones with thin wire and a drill.

Enhance gifts with pinecones, cinnamon sticks and winterberries. Wire them together with velvet ribbon and a gift tag.

Spray paint a dozen small pinecones gold or silver. Leave them plain or decorate them any way you like with glitter or beads. Tie them to ribbons of varying lengths and hang them from lights or chandeliers. You can also give them as a gift in an egg carton.

Create custom pinecone place cards for your guests. Tie a ribbon, bell and name tag to a plain or painted pinecone and set at the table.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Mix 4 cups flour, 1cup salt, 1 ½ cups warm water until soft dough forms. Roll out dough on parchment paper about 1/8 inch thick. Cut out shapes with your favorite cookie cutters and make a hole in the dough with a straw so you will be able to hang the ornament. Move ornaments onto a cookie sheet and bake until hard, about 1 hour. Decorate with paint and glitter then spray with a varnish to preserve.

Eleanor Minnie Foit (nee Kreamer), age 79, died Sat-urday, November 2, 2013. She was born February 9, 1934 in Angola, New York. She was the daughter of George and Bertha (Ratzel) Kreamer. She married her loving husband James H. Foit on February 6, 1954. She worked alongside her husband James for over 50 years in the Foit Floor Covering Company. She also was a seamstress for over 60 years. She was a member of and volunteered countless hours at the St. James Unit-ed Church of Christ. She also volunteered at the Au-tumn View Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the East Eden Home Bu-reau for many years; also a member of the Boston Se-niors Young at Heart. She was known as an avid bowler and enjoyed spectating her grandchil-dren’s sports and musical events. She was the devoted wife of James H. Foit, Sr. who died April 16, 2003; the loving mother of Debi (Kim) Lickfield, James Jr. (Sharon) Foit, Lisa (Rich-ard) Lindner, Julie (Joseph) Poliseno, Timothy (Mary) Foit, Jeanne (Jim) Sobczak and Michael (Annie) Foit.Sister of Sylvia (Bill) Ro-bison, Barbara (late Frank) Reuter and George (Judy) Kreamer. Grandmother of 19 and Great grandmother of nine plus one. Memorial service was held Saturday, Novem-ber 9, 2013 at St. James United Church of Christ, Hamburg. No prior visita-tion. Beloved wife of Arthur Mangan; loving mother of Arthur J., Daryl S. and Todd J. Mangan; beloved grand-mother of Payton; sister of John Drcelik and Judy; daughter-in-law of Flora Mangan. RAYMOND H. KURST Raymond H. Kurst, age 95 of Eden, NY. He was born April 1, 1918 in Buf-falo, NY, son of the late Edwin P. and Catherine (Haid) Kirst and died No-vember 9, 2013. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Geral-dine (Wittmeyer); children Paul (Kathryn) Kirst, Pa-tricia (Thomas) Shepker and Kathleen (John) Co-val; grandchildren, Pe-ter (Amy) Shepker, Julie (Scott) Clements, Steven (Vicky) Mize and Jona-than (Melissa) Kirst; great-grandchildren, Megan, Joseph and Jessica Shep-ker, Ryan and Sean Mize, Madison Kirst and Nathan Clements; brothers and sis-ters, Howard (Marie) Kirst, Robert (Dolores) Kirst, Doris Schmidt, Carl (Ma-bel) Kirst, Eileen Cottet, Jane (Donald) Kruger and John (Jean) Kirst; sister-in-law, Lillian Schreiner along with several nieces and nephews. Ray gradu-ated from Hamburg High School in 1936 and attend-ed Millard Fillmore Col-lege. In 1936, he joined his father's wholesale distribu-tion business that became E.P. Kirst & Sons, Inc. in Hamburg, NY as a sales-man for 70 years, leading the corporation as presi-dent for 28 years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He was a long time communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, served on parish Council, Build-ing and Grounds Commit-tee, Duffy Center Planning Board, Holy Name Soci-ety and received the Buf-falo Diocese St. Joseph the Worker Award. Ray was a member and past officer of the Knights of Colum-bus Council 2220, NYS Wholesale Distributors Assoc., Buffalo Candy & Tobacco Table, Eden Rec-reation Board, Eden Board of Education, a life mem-ber of Eden Fire Dept., and a member of the American Legion Post 880. He was Cub Master and Assistant Scoutmaster in Eden Boy Scouts. His Mass of Chris-tian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, November 14th at Immaculate Con-ception Church, Eden, NY.

The teachers made a lesson on what it means to say the "Pledge of Allegiance" everyday and how important it is to thank Veterans for our freedom. SOUTHTOWNS CATHOLIC SCHOOL SPANISH PROJECT

Mrs. Ann Cooper's Grade 6 Spanish Class celebrated "El Dia de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead". It is celebrat-ed the 1st week of November in the Mexican culture. In Mexico, Spain and even parts of the United States, Day of the Dead is an integrated part of the Catholic Religion. It is a time to celebrate the dead, not mourn them. The kids each had to design an alter honoring a person who had died. Each alter had to include; a picture, 3 colors (purple for pain, white for hope & pink for celebration), artifacts that the person enjoyed while they were alive and foods enjoyed by the deceased. PAINT THE POOL PINK Seniors Kayla Stamper, Kassaundra Funch, Bailey Marshall, Anna Winter, Kaitlin Schnaufer, Felicity Keller, Amanda Schummer and Stepahnie Barnack, organized the “Paint the Pool Pink” swim meet held on Tuesday, Octo-ber 8. The Eden girls defeated visiting Springville by a score of 115-70 and more importantly raised over $200 for Breast Cancer.

SLEEP OUT FOR THE HOMELESS On Friday, November 8, 2013, 16 students from the North Collins Jr.-Sr. High School braved the elements for the first Sleep-Out for the Homeless event organized by Student Government advisor, Mrs. Heather Shean. Par-ticipants had to sacrifice the use of any electronics for the evening and were not permitted to bring in food. Prior to the event, the students collected pledges to sleep in a box on the sidewalks at the High School. Tickets were issued based on the amount of pledges collected and could be used to purchase soup or hot chocolate in a ‘Soup Kitchen’ located onsite and manned by student volunteers Rebecca Walden and Josh Fera. Over $2000.00 was raised and will be donated to the Eden/North Collins Food Pantry and the North Collins Neediest Fund. Thank you to everyone who supported or participated in this great event. Sleep Out student participants included: Hannah Arm-bruster, Emma Dosser, Molly Franz, Julia Haney, Destiny Kennedy, Jenna Keppel, Beth Kibler, Wayne Lawrence, Rebecca Lee, Liz Novoa, Carly Richardson, Jessica Schiffman, Ryan Schiffman, Katie Steff, Katie Yoder, and Rebekah Yoder.
