February 2020
President’s Message
Next Board Meeting
February 12th
11:00 A. M.
Library
Conference Room
Partner’s Point will be closed for the month of February due to the construction of the road and the building
of a waste water pump station. Hopefully this will be completed prior to the end of the month. Due to the
closure our February board meeting will be held at the Lake Havasu City library on February 12th at 11:00 a.m.
I have requested the conference room for our meeting.
An emergency board meeting was held on January 29th. Four board members were present. Only the Secre-
tary, Johnita Tyson, was not present. The purpose of the meeting was to approve expenditures in connection
with an outboard motor that was being donated for use on our brush boat. The outboard is being donated by
Just 4 Fun Powersports. It has a retail value of $15,000. The board approved an expenditure of approximately
$1,500 for the installation and controls for this motor. For this donation Just 4 Fun Powersports will be our
official sponsor.
Western Outdoor News (WON) is holding their winter bass tournament here on Lake Havasu. Registration for
the tournament is on February 4th from noon – 4 p.m. at Anderson Toyota. We will have a table set up selling
memberships, shirts and maps at the registration. The tournament is on February 5th, 6th and 7th at Windsor
State Park south boat ramp. WON has requested our assistance with the tournament. They need help guiding
vehicle and boat traffic. Each day they will have two shifts. The morning shift, for the launch, will be from
5:30 -7:00 a.m. and the afternoon shift, for the weigh-in, will be from 1:30 – 5 p.m. If you are available to help
please contact Dave Bohl at 928-231-4741 or [email protected]. It is great watching the professionals at
the weigh-in and at the awards on the final day.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day and treat your loved ones to a fine day of fishing!

The Fishing classes have been a great success thanks to Gary, Everett and Ron. The classes are so in-
formative and fun it is no wonder it is standing room only.
Anglers membership is growing by leaps and bounds and with it we have got lots of new volunteers to
help bundling the brush. What I am trying to say is how much you volunteers are appreciated keep up
the good work
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
We are moving In a positive way with new sponsorships and recognition for the way we are helping the
fish population and improving the fishing.
A special thanks to Rod Hatchell and Dave Bohl for working together to make it all happen with the fish-
ing classes, new memberships and sponsorships.

Tackle Tips
By Dave Bohl
=========================================================
The weather is starting to climb into the 70’s again in the day time. The lake
water temperatures are back into the 50’s. The smallmouth bass are in pre-
spawn and becoming more aggressive. It is that time when you hook a female
smallmouth several males will follow her to the boat. Have another person
cast in the direction of your hooked bass and they will probably also get a
hook up. It is time to use lizards, either Texas rigged or Carolina rigged. Small
crawfish plastics are also excellent to use at this time. With lures I would use a
Rapala X-rap. Striped Bass are also entering their spawn cycle within the next
two weeks. “Stripers” need flowing water to spawn as they do not build nests
like the black bass. This may be in the river or narrow areas of the lake, such
as the Site Six channel, below Pilot Rock, or from Standard Wash down to the
Black Meadows area. Some folks prefer to fish with bait such as threadfin
shad, bluegills, anchovies or sardines. Personally I prefer fishing with lures so I
would troll with Rattle Traps, Bomber long “A”s, Rapala Shadow Rap Shad, Riv-
er to Sea S Waver or AC plugs “original”. The last four Lake Havasu Striper der-
bies have been won by persons fishing with artificial lures rather than with
bait.
