Swatara K-9 Unit ReceivesEquipment Donation
On Saturday,August 17, 2019, the Swatara Township Police Department K-9Unit had the great experience ofparticipating in the" Cruzin for K9' s" eventat the Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland. The event was organized by theProtection 4 Paws organization.
During this event, Corporal Timothy Bloss and K-9 J.T. performeddemonstrations and met with event attendees. Cpl. Bloss and J.T.were then
Ftp3surprised and presented with the Ace WatchDog Wireless for both, K-9 J.T. andK-9 Kix's vehicles.

Swatara Township is sad to announce the passing of former Commissioner 44 ,*Anthony" Tony" Spagnolo who passed away on August 23. He served as Seventh }Ward( Lawnton area) Commissioner from January 1, 1976 to December 31,2011. Throughout his life, Mr. Spagnolo was active in the community and madea positive impact on all that knew him. He was a dedicated public servant and
leaves behind a legacy of service that will not be forgotten.

The Swatara Township Police Department will again be hosting a Citizen's Police Academy forresidents and non-residents of Swatara Township. This academy will run from January 20, 2020through April 06, 2020. The academy is held once a week on Monday evenings at the Swatara TownshipMunicipal building. There is a $ 50.00 registration fee that is due at the time of acceptance into theacademy. The academy will give citizens an inside look at all of the different aspects of policing. You mustbe 16 years of age or older to apply.This is a great program for anyone looking to start a career in lawenforcement OR anyone just interested in learning more about what police do on a regular basis.
Some of the topics of discussion will include:
Patrol and Traffic Enforcement Drug Investigations
Forensics Police Administration
The Pennsylvania Court System Accident Investigations
Community Services K-9 Officers
Criminal Investigations Crisis Response Team
Academy classes will include class presentations predominately from our department's officers whoare experts in their specific field. This academy will also be interactive and individual participation isstrongly encouraged. The academy will also incorporate various field trips to criminal justice facilitieswithin the county of Dauphin to include Dauphin County Prison, Dauphin County Court House, DauphinCounty Coroner's Office and the Dauphin County Communications Center. Upcoming Tax Seasony'
REERFIE SE0I OR 11111116--- , AARP Tax-Aide is seeking additional volunteers. Last yearthe 35 local AARP Tax-Aide volunteers assisted more than 2000
taxpayers at four locations in Dauphin county. Volunteers do notr need to be an AARP member or retiree to participate, although
sites are open primarily on weekdays during business hours.Volunteers should be comfortable using a computer and havesome familiarity with tax forms( such as from preparing their own
t returns). Potential volunteers receive free hands- on tax training ini January,1 and are required to pass an IRS certification exam based
1 on that training. They will then be asked to contribute a

Volunteers are also needed to greet clients and assist them in
