GRIEVING WITH GRACE THROUGH THE HOLIDAYSAre you facing your first set of holidays without your loved one? It is common (and normal!) to have some anxiety in anticipation of this "first" Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Should we celebrate? What do I need to do differently this year? How do I care for myself? How can I honor my loved one? Join us to reflect on these questions on Tuesday, November 16 at 7 PM in the Carter Center. Please register by calling Jennifer at the parish office or email [email protected]

SUPPORT OUR EXTENDED PARISH FAMILY FOR CHRISTMAS AND BEYOND!We will once again create care packages for our homebound and nursing facility residents. This year will include a subscription to Word Among Us with daily readings, prayers, and reflections. Sponsoring a resident for $20 will provide a year plus Advent and Lent supplements. Checks can be made to St Brendan with “sponsor a senior facility resident” in the memo and sent to Jennifer’s attention or online through our giving page https://www.stbrendans.net/stewardship/ select “sponsor a senior facility resident”. A special card will be signed with your name, or you can sign your own at Masses the weekend of November 20-21.

We also need donations of large print word search or crossword puzzle books, lip balm, note cards, and rosaries. These may be placed in the box outside of the Maroon Center. Questions? Contact Jennifer, 614.876.1272 ext 227 or [email protected]

THANK YOUTo all who came out on November 6 to help with the church grounds cleanup - thank you so very much for your help!!!! It was such a gorgeous fall day to be digging in the dirt on our beautiful holy grounds. It was especially fun to meet and work with all of you, and to see God's goodness shining down on your little ones. We were able to get so much accomplished, all while enjoying each other's company.

THANK YOU FOR A BEAUTIFUL DAY!!! God Bless!

ST BRENDAN FINANCIAL DASHBOARD

A MESSAGE FROM FR BOBDear Parish Family,

At this time of year the Sunday Readings start to reflect the end of TIME and the second coming of Jesus. They remind us that everything we do, think and say has an impact in our lives — not only now but in the future when Christ returns as King in glory. The traditional Advent themes of “Death, Resurrection, Heaven & Hell” will pick up this theme more explicitly. But don't worry! It's not done to make us feel bad or put us down, it's done so that we can reflect on our own lives and make them better. Think of it as a kind of polish up in which everything bad is highlighted so that it can be repented and forgiven, and so that we again rejoice at the love and mercy of God. The clergy will be taking up these themes in our preaching this Advent and helping us to see the amazing things God is doing in our lives. There is no need to fear death or judgement or hell if we are His and He is ours.

When thinking about these themes, my mind is always drawn back to a wonderful parishioner whom I was able to speak to just a few hours before her death. She knew that the end was near, but had long ago placed her whole heart in the hands of Jesus and trusted in Him. When I entered her room she was full of joy. She told me that she was excited because she knew that in a little while she would get to see Jesus in the flesh. Her heart was burning with His sacred love and she was like a little girl anticipating Christmas.

All of us need to develop that level of faith. This will help us to radiate God’s hope and peace to our family, to our co-workers and to our friends. An ever deepening relationship with Jesus is what missionary discipleship is. It is not telling the world that it is bad (people’s fear and anxiety already show that people know that) but that it is LOVED and loved WITHOUT END. What an amazing antidote to the secular view of Christmas that is!

Before then we have the joy of Thanksgiving. Let's start reflecting on what we should be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day and be ready to offer it up to God with praise. As always our Thanksgiving Day Mass will be at 9 AM.

God bless.Fr Bob
