    10 th REGIONAL MIDYEARCONVENTION

    GENERAL GUIDELINES

    1. There will be (11) non-academic events for this years regional midyear

    convention.

    1. The Search for Ambassadors of Goodwill 20112. On the Spot Essay Writing Contest3. Multimedia Extemporaneous Speaking4. Chalk Art5. Junk Art Making Contest6. Laro ng Lahi7. JPIA Best Dance Crew8. So You Think You Can Dance:A Lyrical Hiphop Dance Competition

    (All non-academic events stated above were under the approval of the executiveboard during the 1st Regional Executive Board Meeting at Middleton Apartelle,Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City on June 18-19, 2011)

    2. The participants for each non-academic event must be bona fide members ofNFJPIA Federation Year 2011-2012.

    3. All participants must be a registered delegate of the 10th

    Regional MidyearConvention.

    (A participant is not allowed to join any non-academic event unless he/she hasregistered and paid the assessed rates for the convention. This is to showfairness as to those participants whom are not residing within the area where theconvention was held.)

    4. Failure to follow guidelines two (2) and three (3) means disqualification of theparticipants.

    5. The local chapter must confirm to the vice president for non-academic affairsshould they join any non-academic event on orbefore September 3, 2011 eitherthrough email or text message.

    6. Each local chapter must submit the entry formattached herein together with allsoft copy requirements for non-academics (except AOG) through email on or

    before September 7, 2011.

    (This is to verify that all participants are certified members of the NFJPIA FY11-12.)

    7. Failure to comply with guidelines five (5) and six (6) means non participation inany non-academic event.

    (The vice president for non-academic affairs will post all participating localchapters per event on the official website of RFJPIA at www.theworksheet.weebly.com after the date of confirmation or submission of

    entry form.)

    8. A local chapter representative must submit on the 1st day of the conventionduring registration a long brown envelope per non-academic event containingphotocopies of the school I.D. per participant.

    (In the event that a delegate will partake two or more events, then, he/she mustphotocopy his/her school I.D. respective to the number of events he/she will beparticipating.)

    9. A local chapter representative must also submit all hard copy requirementsduring registration placed inside a long brown envelope.

    10.Every participant is not restricted as to the number of non-academic events thathe/she will be joining.

    (A delegate must be aware of those events that are simultaneously held.)

    11.Any changes on the list of participants per event are allowed only until the 1st

    dayduring registration.

    (If there are changes as to the participants per event, then, the local chapterrepresentative must inform the vice president for non-academic affairs on orbefore the 1st day during registration and such that the person who will take overmust comply with the said requirements to avoid disqualification.)

    12.The order of performance for cultural events shall be determined through drawingof lots during registration.

    13.The participants must be at the venue (30) minutes before the scheduled time ofcontest.

    (Participants are no longer allowed to do their performance once their turn forperformance is done.)

    14.Participants under the influence of liquor and/or narcotics are prohibited fromperforming.

    15.Using of props in all non-academic events is allowed except hazardous elements

    like fireworks, ladder, any form of vehicle, sharp objects, etc.

    16.Costumes must be decent and must be fully supported.

    17.All entries submitted to the NFJPIA Region X and CARAGA Council shallbecome their property.

    18.There shall be a five (5) point deduction per rule violated on the final score.

    19.Deduction shall be made by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators.

    20.The local chapter will be informed with their deductions before the awarding ofwinners.

    21.The decision of the Board of Judges, once announced, is final.

    22.Awarding of winners will be done on the last night on September 18, 2011.

    23.Any queries or clarifications with regards to the guidelines for non-academicevents must be raised to the vice president for non-academic affairs a week

    before the convention.

    (This is important so that the vice-president for non-academic affairs can stillrevise the guidelines before the convention. Thus, inform all local chapters aweek before the convention concerning the revisions made.)

    24.Any protests questioning the validity of the guidelines for non-academic eventsduring the event will no longer be entertained.

    ART AND LITERATURE EVENTS

    ON THE SPOT ESSAY WRITING CONTEST

    1. The contest shall have one category, English.

    2. Each local chapter can send only one (1) contestant. They must be bona fide

    members of the NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    3. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the

    start of the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue.

    4. There will be a common theme to be provided by the Regional Vice President for

    Non-Academics.

    5. The theme on which the contestants will base their works shall be an abstract

    picture.

    6. The abstract picture shall be revealed on the day of the contest, fifteen (15)

    minutes before the contest proper.

    7. The contestants will be given two (2) hours to complete their piece.

    8. The materials will be provided by the facilitators of the event.

    9. The essays of the contestants shall be judged based on the following criteria:

    CONTENT 20%

    ORGANIZATION 20%

    CREATIVE INTERPRETATION 30%

    RELEVANCE TO THE THEME 30%

    TOTAL 100%

    10.There shall be a two (2) point deduction per judge per rule violated.

    11.The decision of the board of judges is final and non-negotiable.

    12.There will only be three (3) proclaimed winners: Champion and 1st and 2nd

    Runners-up.

    13.The announcement of the winners of the contest will be done during the

    Awarding Ceremony.

    14.The essay that will win will be published in the official publication of the NFJPIA

    Region X and CARAGA Council.

    15.All entries submitted to the NFJPIA Region X and CARAGA Council shall

    MULTIMEDIA EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING

    1. The contest shall have one category, English.

    2. Each local chapter can send only one (1) contestant. They must be bona fide

    members of the NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    3. Participants must be in their proper business attire.

    4. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the

    start of the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue.

    5. The order of performance shall be determined by drawing lots fifteen (15)

    minutes prior the schedule of the contest.

    6. A multimedia video shall be played ten (10) minutes prior to the contest. This

    video shall serve as the theme of the speech.

    7. The contestants shall be called and will be shown the same multimedia video.

    Three (3) minutes would be given to the said contestant to prepare his/her

    speech prior to his delivery.

    8. For clarifications about the contest piece, the contestants shall only approach the

    delegated facilitators of the contest. Prior to their turns to deliver, contestants

    shall not talk to anybody else except to the facilitators.

    9. A contestant is not allowed to witness the performance of other contestants prior

    to his/her turn of delivery.

    10.There shall be a designated area for the contestants waiting for their turns to

    watch the video and deliver. Those who are unable to appear one (1) minute

    after the judges had called them shall be deemed disqualified.

    11.Delivery time shall be kept at a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of five (5)minutes. A delivery that falls of or exceeds the time range is subject to a two-

    point deduction per judge.

    12.The official timekeeper will raise a paper indicating the second (2nd) minute of

    delivery by the contestants. By the fourth (4th) minute, the timekeeper will raise

    another paper indicating that the contestants have only one (1) minute to start

    concluding their delivery. After the fifth (5th) minute, the timekeeper will raise

    another paper indicating that the contestants are overtime. Contestants are not

    allowed to continue when the sixth (6th) minute strikes.

    13.Contestants are not allowed to use any voice amplifier.

    14. There shall be a two (2) point deduction per judge per rule violated.

    15.The performance of the contestants shall be judged according to the following

    criteria:

    16.The decision of the judges is final and non-negotiable.

    18.The announcement of winners of the contest will be done during the Awarding

    Ceremony.

    1. There shall be one only one group per local chapter consisting of three (3)

    persons per group. Each member should be a bona fide member of the NFJPIA

    F.Y. 2011-2012.

    2. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the

    start of the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue.

    3. There will be a common theme to be provided by the Regional VP for Non-

    Academics, which the group contestant shall interpret and translate into an

    artwork using colored chalks.

    4. The theme shall be given on the day of the contest, fifteen (15) minutes before

    the contest proper.

    5. The group contestants will be given two (2) hours to complete their artwork.

    6. The group contestants may add caption, not more than fifty (50) words, that will

    explain their artwork.

    7. The materials (colored chalks and erasers) will be provided by the facilitators of

    the event.

    8. A control number will be given to each group participant to avoid biased judging.

    This control number will be made confidential to the organizers of this event.

    Thus, each group participant is not allowed to put any markings that will be an

    evidence to show their identity.

    9. The artworks of the group contestants shall be judged based on the following

    criteria:

    VISUAL IMPACT 30%(color sense, arrangement, balance)

    CREATIVE INTERPRETATION 30%THEME 40%TOTAL 100%

    10.There shall be a two (2) point deduction per judge per rule violated.11.The decision of the board of judges is final and non-negotiable.

    12.The announcement of the group winners will be done during the awarding

    ceremony.

    1. There shall only be one group per local chapter consisting of three (3) to five (5)

    members per group. Each member should be a bona fide member of the NFJPIA

    F.Y. 2011-2012.

    2. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the

    start of the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue. In case

    they will be late, they will still be allowed to join the contest.

    3. The organizers will be the ones to provide the scrap materials. The participants

    are the ones to provide tools limited to the following: scissors, cutter, glue,

    adhesive tape (irrespective of size), glue gun, stick glue, ruler or any measuring

    tools and pencil.

    4. The group is only allowed to make one (1) piece.

    5. There will be a common concept to be provided by the Regional Vice President

    for Non Academics to the contestants with regards to the piece that they will be

    making.

    6. The contest is good for three (3) hours only. Late participants must also submit

    their entry at the end of the contest, regardless of the time of their start.

    7. A control number will be given to each group participant to avoid biased judging.

    This control number will be made confidential to the organizers of this event.

    Thus, each group participant is not allowed to put any markings that will be an

    evidence to show their identity.

    8. The artwork of the group contestants shall be judged based on the following

    criteria:

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

    LARO NG LAHI

    1. There shall only be one (1) team per local chapter consisting of eight (8)

    members: four (4) boys and four (4) girls. They must be bona fide members of

    NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    2. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the

    start of the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue.3. Every member of the group must be in appropriate attire:

    JPIA shirt

    Jogging pants

    Rubber shoes

    4. Wearing of slippers, sandals, shorts, or any clothing not mentioned above is

    strictly prohibited.

    5. The group is not allowed to join the contest if any member from the group is not

    in appropriate attire.

    6. The group is also advised to bring their own bottled water, towels, etc.

    7. Each team will play together of the following games:

    a) Sack-race

    b) Kadang-kadang

    c) Talong2x

    d) Lakad pato

    e) Ball relay

    8. The mechanics of the game will be announced before each game starts.

    9. The organizers will be the ones who will provide the materials for the game.

    10.The announcement of the winners of the contest will be done right after the

    official tabulators of the contest certify the decision of the board of judges.

    11.The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and non-negotiable.

    12. There will be proclaimed three (3) winners per game: Champion and 1 st and 2nd

    Runners-up.

    13. The team who will garner the highest score after combining all five (5) games will

    be proclaimed the over-all champion for this event.

    14.The awarding of winners of the contest will be done during the Awarding

    Ceremony.

    CULTURAL EVENTS

    JPIA BEST DANCE CREW

    1. There shall be one GROUP participant for each local chapter. They must be

    bona fide members of the NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    2. Participants must be at venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the start of

    the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue.

    3. The order of performance shall be determined by drawing lots on the 1 st day of

    the convention during registration.4. Participants are NOT allowed to leave the contest venue unless with proper

    permission from the authorized facilitator of the contest.

    5. Each group should consist of at least eight (8) but not more than ten (10)

    members.

    6. Accompaniment is limited only to tapes or CDs.

    7. The performance is limited to 1 dance number and medleys are allowed. All

    Tapes or CDs must be submitted to the Regional Vice President for Non-

    Academics on the 1st day of the convention during registration.

    8. Before every performance, there shall be a 30 second introductory message

    similarly patterned with the ABS-CBNs Showtime. This introduction shall have

    no bearing in the total score of the participating team. However, special award

    will be given to the local chapter with the best introduction.

    9. The presentation should not exceed five (5) minutes including the entrance and

    exit. For the 1st thirty (30) seconds exceeding time, there shall be a two (2) point

    deduction per judge and if the exceeding time will be more than thirty (30)

    seconds, there shall be a five (5) point deduction per judge.

    10. Costumes must be decent and must be fully supported. Topless for male

    participants are strictly prohibited.

    11.There shall be a 5-point deduction per judge per rule violation and shall be made

    by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators, duly concurred by the members and

    in consultation with the board of Judges.

    12.In an effort to judge the contest objectively and equally, the following criteria will

    be considered by the judges and assigned a point value in each area.

    CULTURAL EVENTS

    SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: A LYRICAL HIPHOP DANCE COMPETITION

    1. There shall be one (1) PAIR participant for each local chapter. The contestants

    must be bona fide members of the NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    2. The pair may be composed of one (1) male and one (1) female or a combination

    of either both male or female.

    3. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the

    start of the contest proper and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest proper.

    4. The order of performance shall be determined by drawing lots on the 1st day of

    the convention during registration.

    5. Participants are NOT allowed to leave the contest venue unless with proper

    permission from the authorized facilitator of the contest.

    6. The participants are given the freedom to choose their own song but inclusion of

    effects is not allowed.

    7. Accompaniment is limited only to tapes or CDs.

    8. The performance is limited to one (1) dance number and medleys are not

    allowed. All Tapes or CDs must be submitted to the Regional Vice President for

    Non-Academics on the 1st day of the convention during registration.

    9. The presentation should not be less than two (2) and must not exceed three (3)

    minutes including the entrance and exit. For the 1st thirty (30) seconds exceeding

    time, there shall be a two (2) point deduction per judge and if the exceeding time

    will be more than thirty (30) seconds, there shall be a five (5) point deduction per

    judge. A less than two (2) minutes performance will have a five (5) point

    deduction per judge.

    10.There shall be a 5-point deduction per judge per rule violation and shall be made

    by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators, duly concurred by the members and

    in consultation with the board of Judges.

    CULTURAL EVENTS

    VIDEO-K

    1. There shall be one (1) participant for each local chapter. The contestant must be

    bona fide member of the NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    2. Participants must be at the venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before thestart of the contest proper and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest proper.

    3. The order of performance shall be determined by drawing lots on the 1 st day of

    the convention during registration.

    4. The contestants will undergo two (2) rounds; the elimination round and the final

    round.

    5. During the elimination round, the contestants must wear their JPIA local chapter

    shirt.

    6. In the elimination round, contestants will have the prerogative to choose their

    song.

    7. 15 minutes before the contest proper starts, the contestants can then select a

    song from the song list.

    8. The performance of the contestants in the elimination round will be judged based

    on the following criteria:

    9. Only five (5) contestants will proceed to the final round.

    10.The order of performance for the final round shall be determined by drawing lots

    right after the top 5 finalists were proclaimed.

    11. In the final round, the finalists will not be the one who will choose their

    song for their final performance. Instead, they will undergo an on the spot

    drawing of lots to determine the song that they will be singing. These songs will

    be prepared by the Regional Vice President for Non-Academics.

    12. The contestants in the final round must be in formal attire.

    13.The performance of the contestants in the final round will be judged based on the

    following criteria:

    VOICE QUALITY 40%STAGE PRESENCE 30%COSTUME 20%AUDIENCE IMPACT 10%TOTAL 100%

    14.The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.

    15. Announcement of winners shall be at the Awards Night of the Convention.

    CULTURAL EVENTS

    THE NEXT YOUTUBE SENSATION(Music Video Edition)

    1. This contest is basically an imitation to the original music video.

    2. There shall be one (1) entry per local chapter.3. The solo/group performer must be bona fide members of the NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-

    2012.

    4. The singer/group is allowed to either have lip sync or to use their original voice.

    5. The entry must copy the scenario of the original music video but should add

    some twist to make it more entertaining.

    6. The scenes must not be vulgar or obscene.

    7. The music video should be at least three (3) but not exceed five (5) minutes.

    8. Each local chapter is free to contact non JPIAns to assist them in the technical

    aspect.

    9. The local chapter must also submit the original music video they portrayed.

    10.The entry and the original music video must be at the hands of the Regional Vice

    President for Non-Academics on or before September 3, 2011 (Saturday) either

    through email at [email protected] or through cargo.

    12.The entries will all together be uploaded at Youtube by the Regional Vice

    President for Non-Academics.

    13.The local chapter will receive a text message from the Regional Vice President

    for Non-Academics informing that their entry was already uploaded at Youtube.

    14.The text message contains the title of the entry per local chapter.

    15.The number of views and not the likes from the entry has bearing in the criteria

    for judging.

    16. The cut-off date for viewing of entries at Youtube will be on September 14, 2011

    at exactly 12 midnight.

    17.A photocopy of a valid school I.D. of the singer or each member of the group

    must be placed inside a long brown envelope and submitted to the Regional Vice

    President for Non-Academics on the 1st day of the convention during registration.

    18.The entries will be played and judged on the 2nd night of the convention.

    19.The entries will be judged base on the following criteria:

    CULTURAL EVENTS

    LyriX at MusiCAA Song Writing Competition for NFJPIA X and CARAGA

    1. This contest is open to all JPIAn songwriters and hit makers.

    2. The entry must encapsulate the heart, personality and identity of JPIAns all over

    Region X and CARAGA.

    3. There should be one (1) group for each local chapter. A group should consist of a

    minimum of four (4) and a maximum of eight (8) members (composers, singers,

    and instrumentalists combined). Every member from the group must be bona fide

    members of NFJPIA F.Y. 2011-2012.

    4. The group is allowed to compose and submit only one (1) English song.

    5. All entries must be original compositions and must not infringe on any copyright

    of any other rights of any party.6. The lyrics of the song must coincide with the theme: RFJPIA: Through diversity

    and beyond, we stand with one goal at hand.

    7. The lyrics must also be supported with an explanation relevant to the theme with

    a maximum of 250 words.

    8. The lyrics of the song and its explanation must be submitted to the Regional Vice

    President for Non-Academics through email at

    [email protected] on or before September 7, 2011.

    9. All entries must have a filename in the following format:

    10. A photocopy of the school I.D. of all members from the group placed

    inside a long brown envelope must be submitted to the Regional Vice President

    for Non-Academics on the 1st day of the convention during registration.

    11. Presentation of entry will be on the 2nd night of the convention on

    September 19, 2011. The presentation should not exceed six (6) minutes

    including the entrance and exit.

    12.Participants must be at venue of the contest thirty (30) minutes before the start of

    the contest and must sign-in upon arrival at the contest venue.

    13. The order of performance shall be determined by drawing lots on the 1st

    day of the convention during registration.

    14.Participants are NOT allowed to leave the contest venue unless with proper

    permission from the authorized facilitator of the contest.

    15. The organizers of the event will be the one who will provide the instruments.

    16.The group is allowed to bring their own instruments.

    17.Criteria of the contest are as follows:

    MELODY 15%LYRICS 30%

    (relevance to the theme)

    ORIGINALITY 20%STAGE PERFROMANCE 25%OVER-ALL IMPACT 10%TOTAL 100%

    18.The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.

    19. Announcement of winners shall be at the Awards Night of the Convention.

    20.The winning entry will serve as the Regions official theme song which will be

    performed and played during conventions, or any other regional activity, and

    wherever the region is represented.

    21. All entries submitted to the NFJPIA Region X and CARAGA Council

    shall become their property
