Mr Elms has joined us as an Activity Leadership apprentice, focussing on all aspects of PE and Sport provision. We have also welcomed back Mrs Hird, following her maternity leave. The structure for September 2014 is as follows: As you will see, we are welcoming some new members of staff to school in September. Miss Mould and Mrs Patton have undertaken very successful student placements in school, and are well known to children and the school. Miss Blewitt joins us as a newly qualified teacher, and will work alongside Mrs Morton in Class 2. Our ‘moving up’ day will be 10th July. Should you have any questions about staffing, please do not hesitate to contact school. Mrs Horner is currently away from the school office as she is accompanying the school’s residential visit to Borrowdale. These will be available very soon.

Reception class visit to Co-op supermarket

Class 1 have been reading the story “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. As part of their learning, Reception children made shopping lists in preparation to purchase alternative healthy foods. With their lists and money, children travelled to the Coop in Crook. They practiced reading signs, prices and labels in the supermarket and handled money, counting and naming coins and collecting change. Following the visit the children all helped to prepare a healthy picnic for the Hungry Caterpillar! They worked cooperatively to organise their own picnic discussing what they needed, sharing and turn taking and handled tools safely. All the children enjoyed tasting their chosen healthy foods. Thank you Reception Children for incredible behaviour outside of school.

Apps Children and staff are using Apps in class to support and develop teaching and learning. Currently

children are using ‘Hairy Letters ‘ and Twinkl apps. Both these apps are suitable for EYFS (Nursery and Reception )and KS1 (Years 1 and 2) children and can be purchased at a small cost on home tablet

devices if you wish to do so. ‘Hairy Letters’ supports children’s letter formation and alphabet recognition. ‘Twinkl phonics’ has a range of games and activities all which are matched to the Letters and Sounds curriculum. The games and activities are arranged into Phase order from Phase 1 to phase

5. We are currently looking at apps to support the New Computing Curriculum to be introduced in September and therefore we will keep you informed regarding any future apps which children will be

using in school.

KS2 Football

It was a tough match on the 4th June at Parkside Academy. The weather conditions were wet and rainy, but we still played to our best ability. Unfortunately we lost 1-0 to Witton-le-Wear. Kieran was solid in defence along with Brody and Samuel. Callum, Connor and Jake were good in attack and they nearly scored twice. Sam was excellent in goal, saving the ball many times to keep us in the game. It was the last game of the season and it would have been nice to end the season with a win, however we will go into next season with increased confidence, and a determination to succeed. The team positions were … Sam–goal Brody-defence Samuel-defence Kieran-defence Dillon-(sub) defence Jake-midfield Callum-centre Connor-centre We have had eight fixtures this season and have had lots of fun with the help from Mr Elms and Mrs Morton. Level 2 Interschool Cricket Competition On the 5TH of June we took part in an Interschool Cricket Competition at Crook Cricket club, against twelve other teams. During the morning we played three matches, one after the other, winning two and narrowly losing one. After a short lunch break and deliberation for the scores to be added, we found out that we were in the semi finals. We were over the moon!!! Seen as we got through to the semi finals we got to play for 3rd place after sadly losing in the semi finals. However we finished the match and finished 3rd out of twelve schools. We found it really fun because we got to meet other schools. By Shannon and Kimberly

The Team enjoyed it very much. In the end, Peases West came 4th. By Amy Plumb
