ATTENTION GARDENERS
We all enjoy having lovely plants and flowers around our property. Barbara Hatem is our wonderful gardener who keeps the flowers watered and nourished. Barbara is asking for two more persons to help with the watering from now through the summer months and into the fall and some additional help for times when the regulars are on vacation. If you have the time to help her with this task, will you please call her at 617-969-2567 or email [email protected]. We’ll all be grateful!

A PERSON CHANGED BY PRAYER CAN
CHANGE THE WORLD… Are you seeking to slow down and grow in faith this summer? Meeting Christ in Prayer is an 8-week program of spiritual renewal based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The purpose of Meeting Christ in Prayer is to provide you with a fresh opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ through daily guided prayer. The Meeting Christ in Prayer program was co-authored by Fr. John Sassani and Mary Ann McLaughlin. Led by Fr. John himself, the program is being offered this summer at Sacred Heart on 8 consecutive Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm beginning August 5th and ending September 23. For more information, or to register, please contact Marie Buckley at [email protected] or call 617-969-4021. All are invited!
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Life is slow and subtle. Love takes time to show and grow. In life, little acts count. In fact, that is what a life is all about, a long parade of moments deceptively inconsequential.

QUINCEANERA
A quinceanera is a Mexican tradition to celebrate a girl turning fifteen years old. This is a particular time to give thanks to God for all the wonderful years she has had and for all the blessings she has received. The parents bring the quinceanera to church and ask God to bless their child with love, health and faith. This blessing is usually made a year in advance, in preparation for the quinceanera's entrance into adulthood. During that time, the quinceanera sets goals that she wants to accomplish throughout her life. She promises to be a faithful and loving person in Christ. The parents also prepare themselves to accept the changes their child will go through. At the age of fifteen the quinceanera is presented to God and to the community as a young adult. Arlette Caballero-Gonzalez is currently fourteen years old and she will be receiving a blessing this Sunday, June 14 at the 9:00am Mass. Arlette, along with her family, will come to the front of the church for blessing as she starts her preparation for the fifteenth birthday.
HELP NEEDED
Help is desperately needed to pick up bread at Whole Foods in Newtonville on Friday mornings at 7:00am and bring to a Boston Shelter. The round trip takes approximately 2 hours of time. For more details, please contact Ann Regan at 617-875-1877. Please search your hearts to see if you are being called to help with this much needed service to some of our neediest citizens and relieve the pressure on those who have been doing it for decades already!
SACRED HEART MINISTRY OF CARE –
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT …. Ministry of Care involves reaching out to those who are unable to attend Mass due to age, infirmity, illness or recuperation. Each week we learn of more and more parishioners at Sacred Heart who are in need of our care. A minister of care spends one or two hours a week, or month, visiting these parishioners in their homes and/or in local nursing homes. As a minister of care you serve as a vital pastoral connection between the parish and the sick and homebound. And you bring the spiritual and healing comfort of the Lord with you in the gift of the Blessed Sacrament. Both current and new
Ministers of Communion are invited to this ministry. Training will be provided for both the visitation and the distribution of Communion to the sick. Formal training and CORI checking for this ministry will begin anew this fall. You need only bring your compassionate heart! Please consider if you are being called to this ministry, or if you would like more information, please call Marie Buckley at (617) 969- 4021.
PASTORAL VISITS TO HOMEBOUND
PARISHIONERS
Do you know someone who is unable to attend Mass due to illness or age, or recuperation from surgery? Would he/she benefit from a visit from one of our pastoral staff during this difficult time? Please ask them, and if so, please call the parish office at 617- 969-2248 and let us know. We are happy to contact them and arrange a visit. If you are acting on behalf of a relative or friend, please respect their privacy and confirm with them first before referring them to us. Thank you for all you do in Christ’s name for those who are sick.
THANKS FOR COMING TO THE GUILD OF
ST. FRANCIS COMMUNION BREAKFAST More than 80 people enjoyed the event. Fr. Blaney celebrated the Mass for the deceased Guild members and then at the breakfast received a check for $12 ,000 from the Guild efforts and events for parish use. Speakers Katy and Rev. Haywood of the Myrtle Baptist Church entertained and informed us of their church history since 1874. Rev. Haywood melted lots of hearts with his comments about Fathers Barry and Connelly! Katy invited us to visit their history museum. Stay tuned for a date to do that. As we go through the summer, be sure to put a box aside for items for the Holly Harvest Fair on November 15-16 AND clothing and new undergarments for St. FRANCIS House. Thanks.
