Emory Johns Creek – Triage“Triage is a process, not a place.”
Mick White,RN Director of Emergency Room
Currently triage in one large, rectangular roomEquipment:
Computer and printer chair and small stretcher Vital sign machine (portable) EKG (portable) Scale (baby and adult), height chart Cabinets with supplies
Triage nurse is responsible for observing waiting room
The triage space is not functionally designed to efficiently meet the needs of acuity adaptability, patient volume, clinician responsibility, and maintain regulatory requirements.
10/7/2008Halcik, Nair, & Thompson--Triage Space2
Triage Nurse cannot see the WR from Triage room
Pre-registration and Triage process are not synched
Stretcher in the Triage room is never used
Need a second room for Triage – sometimes use the family waiting room
Equipment on walls was too high
Did not close the blinds during 3 triages
Suggested walls as opposed to curtains
During rush – use alternate triage methods
Need a bathroom in the larger Triage room
Sinks need to be near or in Triage area
Need wheelchair access
