UUM is one of the many local government funded universities in

Malaysia. It was formally incorporated on 16th February 1984,

with the unique mission to provide academic excellence in the

areas of business management education, IT and quality

management. Faced with this challenging task, the University has,

since its inception, ensured that its academic niche areas are

focused on such disciplines as management, accountancy, focused on such disciplines as management, accountancy,

economics, information technology, entrepreneurial

development, tourism management, banking and finance, social

development, human resources development and international

UUM is located in the northern state of Kedah. Being of the

oldest states in Malaysia, Kedah is steep in history and culture,

plus is a treasure trove of amazing places. Unlike major cities like

Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Kedah feels serene and peaceful. It

is also the epicentre of Malay culture in Western Malaysia.

Malaysian CultureMalaysian CultureMalaysian CultureMalaysian CultureCultures have been meeting and mixing in Malaysia since thevery beginning of its history. More than fifteen hundredyears ago a Malay kingdom in Bujang Valley welcomedtraders from China and India. With the arrival of gold andsilks, Buddhism and Hinduism also came to Malaysia. Athousand years later, Arab traders arrived in Malacca andbrought with them the principles and practices of Islam. Bythe time the Portuguese arrived in Malaysia, the empire thatthey encountered was more cosmopolitan than their own.

Malaysia's cultural mosaic is marked by many differentcultures, but several in particular have had especially lastinginfluence on the country. Chief among these is the ancientMalay culture, and the cultures of Malaysia's two mostprominent trading partners throughout history--the Chinese, and the Indians. These three groups are joined by a dizzyingarray of indigenous tribes, many of which live in the forestsand coastal areas of Borneo. Although each of these cultureshas vigorously maintained its traditions and communitystructures, they have also blended together to createcontemporary Malaysia's uniquely diverse heritage

Malaysian FoodMalaysian FoodMalaysian FoodMalaysian FoodMalaysian Food is not one particular distinction of food buta culinary diversity originating from it's multi-ethnicpopulation of Malay, Indian, Eurasian, Chinese, Nyonya andthe Indigenous peoples of Borneo. A brief look into thepast and how this multi-ethnic country came to be, isessential in order to comprehend how such a cosmic array offood, has now come to be known all over the worldas 'Malaysian Food'.

The staple food in Malaysia is rice as in countries in theregion. Besides, noodles are also popular. Both are the mainsource of carbohydrate in the country.

Most of the foreigners that come to Malaysia will facedifficulties in adapting to Malaysian food if they are not usedto spicy food, and yes, MALAYSIAN FOOD IS SPICY!!(non-spicy are also available but most food are spicy, so beprepared).
