KSCST is successfully implementing educational programmes for the benefit of
High school students, teachers, engineering and degree college students, faculties
of engineering institute, Universities and first grade colleges in the state.
The following are the ongoing projects and programmes of Academic and
Industry Interaction Cell.
• Establishment of Virtual Classrooms (VCR) to Improve the Quality of
Education in Ten Taluks of Karnataka (CSR funds – REC, GOI)
• Establishment of Virtual Laboratory in Backward Talukas of Karnataka -
GoK
• Video Streaming studio lecture series for benefit of faculty and Engineering
students
• National Science Day – 2018
• National Mathematics Day - 2017

The above said programme and projects has been supported by Department of
Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, Department of Science and
Technology, Government of India, NCSTC, Government of India, Rural
Electrification Corporation Limited, Ministry of Power, GoI and Vigyan Prasar,
GoI.

101 C. 12a) ESTABLISHMENT OF VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS
(VCR) TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION
IN TEN TALUKS OF KARNATAKA
(CSR FUNDS – REC, GOI)

Funded by : REC, New Delhi
Progress:
• The KSCST is providing 2 MBPS BSNL broadband internet connectivity
with static IP and accessories such as skype camera and modem to all the
10 centres for a period of one year. Shortly all the 10 VCR high schools will
be provide with these facilities.
• KSCST has organised Vijnana Darshana Programme on 11th, 12th and 13th
January 2018. 85 Students and 21 teachers from 21 Virtual Classroom
established Government high schools participated.
• KSCST has prepared tender document for the development of 3D Virtual
interactive experiments and uploaded the same on Karnataka e-
Procurement portal during January 2018. Further, Notification on the
same has been published on daily Newspaper on 24th January 2018.
• KSCST has organised the bid meetings as per schedules.
• Two vendors M/s. Manipal Technologies Limited and M/s. LabInApp
Technology Pvt. Ltd respectively participated in the bidding process and
the KSCST has invited both the vendors for the proof of concept meeting
for the evaluation and selection of the vendor.

(E-LEARNING CENTRES) TO IMPROVE THE
QUALITY OF EDUCATION IN THE
BACKWARD TALUKS OF KARNATAKA - GoK

Progress:
• KSCST is monitoring / interacting with all centres and responds / rectify
the problems if any.
• KSCST has taken the initiative to strengthen all the Virtual Labs (VL) by
IT gadgets and other accessories.
• KSCST has organised Vijnana Darshana Programme on 11th, 12th and 13th
January 2018. Four Students and one teacher from each Virtual
Laboratory participated.
• In this programme the students and teachers visited ISRO, HAL heritage
museum, Lalbagh botanical garden, Namma Metro, Visvesvaraya Rain
Water Theme Park, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, All India Radio and
Visvesvaraya Industrial Technology Museum to increase the science
knowledge for rural children and also Model making, experiments on
science, interaction with Phd Scholars from IISc was organised.

101 C. 12d) NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY 2018

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) in honour of C V
Raman’s invention popularly called the Raman Effect celebrates the National
Science Day every year. The theme for this year’s National Science day 2018 is
“Science and Technology for Sustainable Future”.
The following activities were organised as a part of Celebrations of National
Science Day 2018:
1. On-the-spot Painting Competition: KSCST organised On-the-spot painting
competition on 10th February 2018 (Saturday) at IISc campus on the theme
“Science & Technology for Sustainable Future”. Dr. H. N. Chanakhya, Chief
Research Scientist, CST, IISc inaugurated the competition. Around 700
Higher Primary and High School students participated in the competition.
The painting were adjudged by the faculty members of Chitrakala
Parishanth and 46 paintings have been selected for award.

2. Essay Writing Competition: KSCST has organised Essay Writing
Competition in various BBMP and Government High Schools in second
week of February 2018. One best essay from each school was awarded

during the programme. 32 BBMP and Government High Schools have
participated in the competition.
3. Prize Distribution Programme: Prof S. Subramanian, Secretary, KSCST and
Professor, Material Engineering, IISc welcomed the gathering and spoke
about the importance of C V Raman’s contribution towards Science and
Technology. Dr. S. G. S. Swamy, Executive Secretary, KSCST gave a brief
introduction about National Science Day 2018. The programme was
inaugurated by Prof. C.R. Chandrashekar, Senior Professor of Psychiatry
(Retd.,), NIMHANS & child psychologist who also delivered special lecture
on child psychology. Another eminent scientist Prof. S. N. Omkar from the
Aerospace Engineering Department, IISc addressed the students on
“Utilisation of drones in various sectors”. Prizes were distributed on this
occasion to the winners of On-the-spot painting competition and Essay
writing competitions organized by KSCST. Around 750 students from
BBMP, Government and aided High Schools participated.

101 C. 12e) NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY 2017

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology and National Council for
Science and Technology Communication Government of India, New Delhi jointly
celebrated National Mathematics Day on 22nd December 2017 on the birthday of
Shri. Ramanujan at Prof. Satish Dhawan auditorium, Indian Institute of Science,
Bengaluru. Around 350 Students from BBMP High Schools participated in this
event.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Harish Seshadri, Professor,
Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and
interacted about the importance of Mathematics in Day today life. He also
explained about the opportunities available in the field of Maths. The next
session was by Mr. Prasanna Murthy, Principal (Retd.,) , Vijaya High School,
Bengaluru. He demonstrated various teaching learning materials on value of Pi,
Pythogarous Theorem etc. The next session was by Ms. Janhavi Karthik,
Coordinator, St. Paul’s English School. She demonstrated the technique of
making magic square using mathematical topology. The next session was by Mr.
Venkat Subba Rao, Director, Inno Teach Learning Solutions Pvt. Ltd.,
Bengaluru. He enthused the student with the life history of various
Mathematicians. The last session was by Mr. V. Srikanth Science Communicator,
Bengaluru. He briefed about the importance of mathematics with few videos.
Around 40 mathematical models from various High Schools also exhibited during
the programme. A book “Ganithanda Chatuvatikegalu” in Kannada was
distributed to all the student participants.

101 C. 12f) RADIO SERIAL ON “SUSTAINBLE DEVELOPMENT”

Funding by : Vigyan Prasar, DST, GoI
Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Science,
Bengaluru, Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Government of
India, and All India Radio, Bengaluru in fulfilment of its science popularisation
mandate and with the aim of creating awareness about sustainable environment
among general public, broadcasting the radio serial “Sustainable Development”
from 18th June 2017 in Kannada and Konkani language.
Till date 38 episodes on Sustainability and Industrial Revolution, Conservation of
Natural Resources, India Ethos & Practices on SD, Sustainable Development
Goal 2030 Energy, sustainable cities, Disaster deduction, Protecting and
Managing Natural Resources, Agriculture, Food security, Education & Skill,
Ocean a & Marine ecosystem, Fossil Fuel & Environment, etc., were aired (every
Sunday at 9.00 a.m.) through all the AIR stations of Karnataka. We are receiving
feedback through email, post card and SMS.

101 C. 12g) PATENT INFORMATION CENTRE

Background:
Patent Information Centre, Karnataka State Council for Science & Technology is
supported by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Objectives:
• The main objective is to create awareness among students, faculties of
various educational institutions, industries, Government departments,
R&D Institutions and Individual inventors about Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR)
• To guide inventors regarding patenting, copyright, trademarks,
Geographical Indications etc.
• To assist the inventors in respect of filing patent for their inventions and
other IPR spectrum
• Guide Colleges and Universities to setup IP Cell.
• To increase the Intellectual Property output even for Incubation Centres
and Start ups.
Activities:
The following activities were conducted by the Patent Information Centre during
the period January 2018 to March 2018:
PIC conducted the awareness programme at Sri Venkateshwara College of
Engineering (SVCE), Bangalore on 26th February 2018. The programme was held
in the presence of Chief Executive Director of SVCE and other faculties of the
college. The programme included two technical lectures from the experts of the
Patent field. More than 150 students were benefited by this programme.
PIC also participated in the Open day at IISc held on 10th March 2018 and put up
a stall to exhibit the publications of PIC. More than 50 enquiries were made
regarding the facilities available at the PIC and for awareness programme.
Further 5 enquiries were made at the PIC office regarding filing the patents and
trademark registrations. The information was provided suitably.

101 C. 12h) STUDENT PROJECT PROGRAMME (SPP):

The KSCST had invited project proposals from the final year engineering
students for the 41st series (2017-18) of Student Project Programme (SPP) for the
sponsorship.
The activities of 41st Series of SPP started in November 2017. KSCST had
circulated SPP posters to all the engineering colleges and universities across the
state in the month of December 2017. The Council has received 2973 project
proposals from various disciplines from 157 engineering colleges across the State.

The project proposals are being scrutinized by the experts from IISc, NAL and
Industries. The final list of the selected projects will be uploaded and displayed in
the Councils website in the last week of March / first week of April 2018.

101 C. 12i) TEACHERS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST) along with
Anubhava Science Foundation, Bengaluru and Department of Education,
Government of Karnataka at the Block level organised “Teachers’ Enrichment
Programme” at Indian Institute of Science campus. Teachers’ Enrichment
Programme is a year-long programme envisioned to enrich the teaching -
learning of science and mathematics in Higher Primary schools of Karnataka.
The Teachers’ Enrichment Programme is offered in physical mode with contact
sessions spread over one year for government and aided higher primary school
teachers. The programme has been launched on 16th August 2017. The third and
fourth contact session was held during 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th December 2017 and
30th, 31st January 2018 at Lecture Hall complex, IISc. A total of 45 teachers those
who are teaching Science and Mathematics from Government and aided School of
Bengaluru North Block 1 and North Block 2 are participating in the programme.

Background
KSCST is very keen to popularize science among rural children. In this regard,
the Council is organising “Vijnana Darshan” programme. This programme aims
to take the students on a Science tour to leading R & D institutions in Bengaluru
to spur the scientific interest in the students. In this financial year, the Council
has arranged arrange a visit of 84 Government High School Students and 21
teachers of virtual Laboratories and Virtual classrooms from different parts of
Karnataka from 11th – 13th January 2018.
Progress
On the first day (11th January 2018) the programme was inaugurated by Shri. V.
S. S. Shastry, National Awardee & Origami expert. The students visited ISRO
Satellite Centre, Heritage Centre & Aerospace Museum Hindustan Aeronautics
Limited and Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain
On the second day (12th January 2018) Lalbagh - Botanical Garden, Sir. M.
Visveswaraiah Rain Water Harvesting Theme Park , Jawaharlal Nehru
Planetarium and All India Radio. The demonstration of various experiments by
IISc research scholars were also organised.
On the third day (13th January 2016) the students visited Visvesvaraya
Industrial & Technological Museum. The book “Jnana Vijnana Nigantu – Science
Dictionary” in Kannada was distributed to all the participants. All the students
appreciated the programme and thanked KSCST.
