Confession and ForgivenessIn the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.Amen. Matthew 28:19; [18:20]Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid:cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.Amen.

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1: 8-9

Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God,we confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins.I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit.Amen.

Prayer of the Day O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

+Word+Reading Isaiah 43.1-3a, 14-17But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. 3 For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you.14 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I send to Babylon and bring them all down as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships in which they rejoice. 15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”16 Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, 17 who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick.

READING 2 Corinthians 1.3-11Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. 6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 10 He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. 11 You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.

Here ends the readingThanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 16th chapter.Glory to you, O Lord.

Holy Gospel John 16.16-24, 32-33“A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

The Gospel of our Lord.Praise to you, O Christ.

The Lord’s Supper is the family meal for Christians. If you are a Baptized Christian, seeking a church home, a member of a congregation that proclaims the Gospel, and a disciple of Christ who desires to be forgiven and strengthened to live more faithfully for Christ, you are welcome to commune with us (Children, ages 2nd grade and above who are Baptized and who have received First

Communion Instruction, are welcome to come commune with their family).

If you are not a Christian, or if you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to come forward for a personal blessing (indicate this by crossing your arms) or you can spend this time in prayer. Our hope is that this time is helpful to you as you consider

your relationship with Jesus Christ and with His people, the church.

The Great ThanksgivingThe Lord be with you. 2 Tim. 4:22And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. Colossians 3:1We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Ps. 136It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is indeed right and salutary that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, holy Father, through Christ our Lord; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join them in saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow’r and might: Heav’n and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again.

We celebrate this Sacrament of our redemption, O Father, with praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen Matthew 6:9-13

The Invitation to Spiritual CommunionA spiritual communion is a personal devotional that anyone can pray at any time to express their desire to receive Holy Communion at that moment, but in which circumstances impede them from actually receiving Holy Communion. The presider invites the following prayer to be said by all:

My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. I desire to offer you praise and thanksgiving as I proclaim your resurrection. I love you above all things, and long for you in my soul. Since I cannot receive you in the Sacrament of your Body and Blood, come spiritually into my heart. Cleanse and strengthen me with your grace, Lord Jesus, and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you, and you in me, in this life and in the life to come. Amen.

ANNIVERSARIESJuly 30 Darren and Kim Aplet, James and Angela GriffinAugust 1 John and Sheila Dovenmuehler

Dear Red Hill Family,This Sunday, our Gospel lesson is taken from John 16. In verse 33, Jesus tells us:“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”What an incredible promise and hope! Let us remember in the midst of viruses, angry voices, and fears of the future, our hope is found in Jesus and He will not let us down or let us go! As we begin the weekend, here are a few reminders and invitations:

*New Sermon Series Begins. This Sunday, we begin a new message series entitled, “How to Get Through What You’re Going Through.” As I mentioned earlier in the week, I have had many conversations with folks who have shared with me their struggles, fears, and frustrations, as well as those of their family and friends, in these challenging times. What do we do when life changes in a moment? Where do we go when we feel lost, alone, and confused? Where do we find the “hope to cope?” As Jesus said in John 16.33 (see above), the answer to these questions are found in Him! Nothing can overcome Jesus; He has overcome the world! This Sunday we explore what the Bible tells us about how we can have hope-no matter what!

*“Drive Through” Holy Communion, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. After the virtual Worship services, you are encouraged to come to the church to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The plan is that as you enter the church driveway, pull up to the “breezeway” next to the Sanctuary/Prayer Chapel. As you remain in your car, myself and other servers will wear face coverings as we administer the bread, and another server will offer you a plastic cup of wine or grape juice from a Communion tray. You will be asked to personally take the cup, drink, and then dispose of it in a provided container. You will then be given a communion blessing. And, just as something fun (which we need!), I invite you to bring your pet(s) for a blessing!

*Wednesday Morning Bible Study Livestream: “The Parables of Jesus.” You are invited to join us in the sanctuary from 7:15 am. to 8:00 a.m. to study God’s Word! You will find the study on our Welcome Page player, but as with our other livestreams, you can also go to our Social Media pages, https://www.youtube.com/c/redhilllutheranchurchandschool or https://www.facebook.com/redhillllutheran, as well as https://vimeo.com/redhilllutheran Additionally, this class is recorded so you can participate at any time!

*RHLC Yard Signs Available! Through the generous donation of one of our member families, we have some yard signs available that invite people to join us for our virtual Worship services! This is a great and simple way to encourage your friends and neighbors to Worship with us! If you would like to get a sign, you can call the church office or stop by and we will get one for you.

Beginning next week, I will be calling the members of our church family (you) just to “check in” to see how you are doing, if you are in need of anything, and/or how we can be praying for you. Of course, you are always encouraged to call me/the church staff anytime, if you need anything!

*Finally, please continue to use our on-line giving option available on our website, or by mailing your financial gifts to the church office. We are very thankful for your continued support and prayers! And, I remind you: we are here for you! If you have any needs or concerns, please contact me at the church office. Visit: https://www.redhillchurch.org/give.That should do it for now. I hope you are doing well! We will be together soon! Have a blessed weekend!

ANNOUNCEMENTSWednesday Moring Bible Study7:15a.m. to 8:00a.m. “The Parables of Jesus”One of the ways that Jesus taught both the surrounding crowds as well as his disciples, was through the use of parables. The word “parable” comes from the Greek, parabole, which is a compound of para (“beside”) and ballo (“throw”), meaning literally, “to throw alongside.” A parable is a long or short story or saying, used to make a comparison, for the purpose of teaching a spiritual lesson. Jesus would use common, everyday experiences or elements in His listeners’ everyday world and “throw alongside” a spiritual truth or characteristic about God’s character and Kingdom. All three synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) contain the parables of Jesus, often unique to that particular Gospel. In the Gospels, Jesus’ use of parables reflected three, unique themes: Parables of the Kingdom; Parables of Grace; and Parables of Judgement. Using these three theological themes, we will examine the nature, content, and message of Jesus’ parables, as well as the lessons and truths about God that we can learn through Jesus’ parables for discipleship today!
