2019 WCLM Thursday Drive – Icehouse Rd10:00am Departure from Lake Natoma Inn Car Park

These are directions for the scenic WCLM drive on Thursday May 16th with stops at various scenic locations for photos and food/restroom breaks.

Safety is paramount! Sections of roads we will be on will go through villages and towns with pedestrians, hidden entry/exit driveways, and wildlife. Some sections are steep and hazardous so please watch out for debris (rocks, branches, etc.). We will occasionally encounter other touring vehicles and bikes so please pay attention and respect others, drive safe and in control always.

In Georgetown we can do a quick stop for photos. We can park in the middle of the road as well as on the sides. This makes for a cool picture.

When approaching the Reservoir there is a Boat Ramp Parking Lot on the right. We will turn into before the bridge over the lake and stop for about 15mins to take some pictures here.

Along this section of road you will see part of the devastation caused by the King Fire that scorched over 97,000 acres in the Fall of 2014.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin is an old waypoint for the Wells Fargo Pony Express and for the Rubicon Trail. It’s a dirt road down to the cabin so if you don’t want to drive down the 200yd dirt road to the Cabin then park off the main road and walk down. If you go into the cabin you can write your name or a message on a dollar bill and staple it to the ceiling or walls (if you can find an open spot). This is a real step back in time with some interesting history to it. We can stop here for 10-15mins if folks want to visit the Cabin.

NOTE: Even last weekend there was a section of road after Uncle Tom’s Cabin that has snow covering part of the road. We will proceed with caution in this section of road until it is clear again at Icehouse Rd.

We will stop for about 45mins at the Icehouse Reservoir for our box lunch and a rest. The lake will be a great backdrop for another photo shoot. I took this picture in April.
