MAY 5, 2019 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER
OLDP updates Thank you to everyone who made our Holy Week celebrations beautiful and memorable. I hope that all who were able to participate in some way were blessed by the experience. I pray that your Easter Season is equally joyful as we continue to celebrate our Lord’s Resurrection and all that it means to us and for us. We especially want to welcome and congratulate Dan and Kristy Marshall who with a Pro-fession of Faith came into the Church at our Easter Vigil and were able to be Confirmed and re-ceive Holy Communion as well.
Congratulations and “job well done” to Brandon Bonvillain on his Eagle Scout project which was dedicated and blessed on Monday April 22nd at Lafreniere Park. The project is a Veterans Memorial with a Battlefield Cross statue and bricks, in memory of Veterans, living and deceased, and is located behind the Children’s Memorial Garden near the water. Thank you to everyone who made our new Spring Fest an amazing and wonderful celebration especially to Bubba and the Spring Fest Committee who worked so hard since last summer on putting this all together. As always, we can never do this without volunteers, vendors, donors, bands, and participants. Thank you all for keeping this, our largest Parish Fundraiser, alive and flourishing. Please keep all of our OLDP School Students, their families, and all of our School Faculty and Staff, in your prayer in these last few weeks of our School. God bless you, Fr. Mike
Mother’s Day Enrollment Book ~ Would you like to have your Moth-er remembered (living or de-ceased) in our Mother’s Day En-rollment Book? The Enrollment Book will be placed on the altar
and all Masses will be offered on Mother’s Day for all the mothers in the book. The book will remain on the altar during the month of May. There is a display set up in the Narthex for you to enroll your mother. Mother’s Day Cards are available for you to take and present to your mother. An envelope will also be available for your donation and to fill in the name or names of women you want to be remembered in the Masses.
Living Stewardship Now “Try as far as you can to do everything well, but when it is done, do not think about it. Try, rather, to think of what is to be done next. Go on simply in the Lord’s way, and do not torment yourself.” —Saint Francis de Sales Copyright © 2009, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
THOUGHT OF THE DAY
WORDS AND DEEDS When people hear us speak God’s word,
they marvel at its beauty and power; when they see what little impact it has on our
daily lives, they laugh and poke fun at us. —Second-century Christian

WITNESS TO THE WORD The scene in the reading from the Acts of
the Apostles today evokes memories of Jesus’ trial in the Gospels. This is the author’s intention, so as to show clearly the link between what Jesus did, what the apostles are doing, and what we are called to do for the sake of the Name. Just as Jesus spoke the truth of the message of salvation before the high court, so Peter and the apostles fearlessly proclaim their witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ. How easy it would have been to lie, to deny Jesus; they would have escaped with their good name. Yet they understood that denying Jesus meant losing everything. They would lose not only themselves, but also the Christian community that was just be-ginning to come together. They took their stand to show other members of the church of Christ that the Good News is indeed a truth worth living for—and dying for.
FEED MY SHEEP John’s Gospel today also echoes an earlier
Gospel scene, the scene of Peter’s denial of Jesus. Jesus goes out with the disciples to fish, as he must have done many times during his life. And they catch so many fish, it seems as if they have caught all the fish in the world. Then Jesus offers Peter an-other chance, and this time Peter does not fail. “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you” (John 21:15). And Jesus explains the cost of that love. For Peter is being charged with tending the sheep, catching the fish. Following Jesus means not just living the Good News, but spreading the word. It means form-ing and tending communities, building and spread-ing the church of Christ throughout the world. That’s Peter’s mission, and by virtue of our baptism it’s our mission as well. We are called to live and proclaim the Good News of salvation, to live in a way that builds up the community of Christ. We are called to witness to the world the Christian way of life. We all have to catch the fish and feed the sheep. Copyright © 2006, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
