100UK CREATIVEINDUSTRIES WINSIN100 DAYS SEIZING THE POST-REFERENDUM OPPORTUNITY
24TH JUNE TO2ND OCTOBER 2016
Nicola Mendelsohn CBEIndustry Co-Chair, Creative Industries CouncilVP EMEA, Facebook
Our UK creative industries have shown one of the fastest growth rates of any industrial sector —three times as fast as the wider economy – and their value spreads well beyond these industries into the wider economy.
Our creative industries are alreadyresponsible for nearly a tenth of total UK service exports and have been growing their exports rapidly in recent years. We see major opportunities to expand our trade across the globe, and to further improve our productivity, which is better than the EU average.
Our creative industries are thus vital to the UK’s industrial strategy, and to its future growth and competitiveness.
INTRODUCTION
Beyond their economic impact, our creative industries also play apowerful role in bringing people together, and building connectionswithin and between communities.
We have the opportunity over the next few years to consolidate and grow the UK’s position as a truly global centrefor the creative industries, at the heartof the world’s digital economy.
We aim to go from strength to strength, extending our reach into new markets with world-class creative content, services and talent.
This document, prepared in consultation with industry partners of the Creative Industries Council, provides a snapshot of the pace and variety of the potential of both our big and small creativeenterprises
For support evidence please go to www.thecreativeindustries.co.uk
Our creative industries are critical to the UK’seconomy and the lives of its communities. They drive the digital economy and are an engine of economic growth, generating over
of UK GVA (£87bn in 2015). They play a key role in shaping the UK’s international reputation and influence.5%
