How it all started

In 2012 Jukka Pesola (Pure Waste) and Rien Otto (CLS-Tex) met as winners of the ‘2012 Challenge Solution Textile’, set by the global innovation platform ‘LAUNCH Nordic’. From then on the two pioneers started working together. This year, in 2020, we agreed on taking the next step and start closing the loop by presenting the extended label Pure Waste CLS Inside. Pure Waste products are initially already made from recycled textile. However, after their use they will be given yet another life: using the innovative HTEX technology, we recycle the used clothing into raw material for new for yarns, fabrics and new garments. The return and recycle services as well as the recycling process are made possible by CLS-Tex’ innovative solutions. This way we close the loop entirely: waste will be raw material!

LAUNCH Nordic is a global innovation platform tackling sustainability challenges within materials and manufacturing. LAUNCH Nordic partners are united by a commitment to helping green the value chain of materials, initiate industry collaborations, and scale sustainability innovations in materials.

Every year LAUNCH Nordic sponsors an annual Innovation Challenge with different themes focusing on design and manufacturing, benefitting the circular economy.

LAUNCH Nordic is interested in innovations with the potential to scale within two years, as well as game changing early stage technologies and prototypes. Who are we?CLS-Tex is an initiative of various parties and individuals who have joined forces to make a major step forward in chain management of the circular economy.

As CLS-Tex team, we have acquired a vast knowledge during the past 20 years. We further developed this through achieved innovations and the strong network that we built along the way. These innovations related to proven concept projects within the European Union and products for resellers and end users. By joining forces, we now lay the foundation for the following professional steps, developments and innovations that we will establish passionately.

CLS-Tex is a hands-on company: we do not just talk about what it should be like, we actually achieve concrete and feasible solutions, possibilities and products that you can apply directly. This way we close the chain together with you.

Over the coming years we will develop service models together with our chain partners, as well as roll out projects that focus on social return.


Why are we doing this?At CLS-Tex, we believe that circular economy and corporate social responsibility are the solution to creating a sustainable world. When we turn waste into a raw material, we can reduce CO2 emissions. We believe in a joint responsibility for what we produce and consume; only if we work together, we can restore the balance between well-being and prosperity.

For us, a sustainable and circular economy means: reuse (recycling) of raw materials and responsible working conditions, giving high priority to living wages for people on the work floor and to social return.

Reuse, repair and recycling into new products are part of the circular economy. But the development of new business models - such as lease services contracts and the shift from ownership to usage contracts - are possible steps towards a more durable economy.

Performance based products form the basis at CLS-Tex. This means – that together with you – we take a critical look at the purpose for which the clothing is used and will propose adjustments based on that. This does not affect quality and safety standards. On the contrary, end users get what they ask for: safe, high-quality products with optimal wearing comfort and a longer lifespan.


What can we do for you?CLS-Tex organizes the entire logistics of the total chain for you and relieves you of your concerns. This means chain management for all partners involved and the guarantee that we monitor the chain of production and the (re)use of raw materials in a transparent manner through our in-house developed Real Time Track and Trace system and owner passport for textile.

Together with Pure Waste we offer sustainable solutions to give your used clothing a new life. From your clothing sorted by color, we weave new yarn - in combination with cutting waste from the production of cotton and/or polyester. This is then used to make T-shirts, sweaters and other items of clothing that we subsequently return to you.

In addition to the above solutions, we offer even more, such as the production of T-shirts, sweaters, jeans from 100% recycled textile and the supply of raw materials for, for example, felt bags. Naturally, all solutions we offer are monitored, provided with a passport and retrieved in order to convert them back to new raw material.

Pure waste CLS Inside clothing is produced in an ecological and sustainable manner. The products are made entirely from cutting waste from yarns and clothing that are recycled into new yarns, fabric and clothing.

After use, the clothing is recycled by CLS-Tex into new building blocks for yarn, fabric and clothing. The new garment is made from 100% used consumer textile.

Cliff products

From workwear to Cliff products

Used clothing – made from cotton, polyester and various blends of which we we don’t know the exact composition – in combination with soft plastics waste. We make granulate from which we produce profiles like planks, poles, etc. and products like picnic tables, street lights and other items that can be used as construction and building products.

THE COMPANY

At Pure Waste, we measure profits only in the wellbeing of the planet. We use textile waste, the otherwise valueless material, to upcycle it back into premium quality products. We have chosen to concentrate on cotton, since it’s the most used yet least recycled fabric, and demands an unbearable amount of water to grow.

THE PURE WASTE PHILOSOPHY

We, at Pure Waste, think that all of our doings have an impact on something. We know that sustainability and quality go together. We believe that fashion and ecological thinking should go together too. Therefore, we strive to do things in the most ecological and ethical way possible.


Social responsibilityOUR PEOPLE

For us, how we do business and how we treat people are both important. We strive to be

transparent in everything we do. We want to provide fair, safe and legal working conditions

for everyone who works with us.

We located our CMT factory in the Tiruppur area of southern India. It’s a building designed

and built for industrial use, so we can guarantee a safe working environment. We comply

with local laws and international regulations, such as the UN Universal Declaration of

Human Rights. We try to ensure that the standards are not only fulfilled, but also improved

upon.

Our employees have work contracts, are on a payroll and are paid monthly. Working hours

are less than the local average – 10 hours per day. Over time is paid and not compulsory.

Salaries are higher than average in the region. We also cover social expenses and light

food. Transportation is provided as well as accommodation, when necessary.

No under-age workers are permitted. Half of our employees are from the nearby village

and the eldest of the village is also the head of the factory. To ensure our standards are

fulfilled, one of the shareholders of the company is Indian. He is responsible for daily

operations in India. We also personally visit the factory regularly. The commitment of the

local workers helps us to function according to our values at all the levels. For us, it is

important that employees are treated fairly and that we can take care of their well-being.


Our factoryThere may be a lot of undesirable effects for a region when producing in a developing country, but our aim has been to minimize harmful impacts and instead bring positive benefits for the village community. We not only produce water-saving textiles, but we also keep an eye on all our responsibilities.

The available resources are used as efficiently as possible to minimize harmful environmental impacts. 90% of the energy used in the factory comes from wind power. Waste is recycled from bio -toilets for cultivation, and to produce cooking gas for our workers.

The fence surrounding the factory is made of 56,000 recycled plastic bottles. The factory is located in a dry area, so water usage is regulated. There is a well, and a water pipe built to the factory that benefits people living in the area.

Our extensive servicesThe products from Pure Waste CLS Inside come with a passport (QR code). This way we know exactly where the product was made, who made it and what the product was made of. This information can be read by both the producers and the partners, but also by the user of the Pure Waste CLS Inside products. This information ensures that we know exactly which materials have been used, making it possible to easily sort the clothing by raw material and recycle the products with the right technology.

Both the initial manufacturing process of Pure Waste garments as well as the entire process of recycling (turning the raw materials into new products) are monitored transparently and controlled with our unique Passport for Textile: P4T® (track & trace system).

Pure Waste CLS Inside provides the end user with an environmental savings document and declaration of destruction as well as with transparent insight into the chain.


This makes it possible for you to check for yourself that what you have purchased is genuine. We also supply the certificates stating that the products are made from recycled material.

The QR code is ‘placed on the clothing’, making it possible for you to check the entire product chain after your purchase. We make sure the necessary certificates are delivered together with your purchase.

If you no longer use the clothing, you can return it to CLS-Tex. We will then recycle the clothing into raw materials for new textiles or into those for making Cliff products.

After having sent us the clothing, you will be provided with the environmental savings document and declaration of destruction.If you want to purchase new Pure Waste CLS Inside products or Cliff products made from your own clothing, we can surely organize this for you.
