Ionisation type smoke alarms aregenerally more effective at detecting fast, flaming fires which consume combustiblematerials rapidly and spread fire quickly. The SO-610 Toast Proof Smoke Alarm usesanoptical(photoelectric)typesensorwhichismore effective at detecting slowburningfires, which can smoulder for hours beforeburstingintoflames.
TOAST PROOF = Less sensitive to cookingfumes. (Optical alarms are less prone tonuisancealarmsduetocookingfumes.)
For maximum protection, use both types of smoke alarm on each level of your home
