10 things to do in Rome

Earlier this year I went to Rome where I took a million photos of everywhere I went. I was lucky enough to have friends over there so it was like have my very own person tour of places. I think in a place like that where people will visit for only a few days you need to know where the best places to go are and when, so here is a brief tour for people who are maybe short on time and can only go to a few places.

It is a very complicated place with lots of little alleyways and you will be walking and stumble upon something amazing so I want to give visitors an easy guide to 10 things to see in Rome.

ArchitectureOne of the obvious

things you will come across in Rome are

Roman ruins. Despite being a massive tourist

attraction, they have caused chaos around

the city as they do restrict building plans.

However the architecture you do

come across just stops you in your tracks as

you pear through archways and up at Glass Domes of the

Cathedrals.


ColosseumThe biggest, most well know

Amphitheatre to date, the Colosseum is definitely not over

rated. Head there just before sunset to miss the big crowds and

to get some great photo opportunities. It’s a lovely walk up to it and it’s almost surreal how big

it really is.


Ponte Milvio BridgePonte Milvio is the oldest bridge in Rome originally dating back to 206 BC. It is known for being covered in padlocks, left on the bridge by couples declaring their love.To make this scene better why not try Granita, a fruity iced snack from one of the local food stands.


Trevi Fountain

Stunned by where they hide this magnificent monument, it’s one of

the highlights of Rome. This is where the biggest crowds are in my opinion. It is said that around 3,000 euros are thrown into the fountain each day as legend has it, you will return to Rome

if you toss in a coin. So take some shrapnel.


Street Art

Rome plays host to so many types of art. Walking down the streets you can’t help but turn and

hold your gaze on some of the the most beautiful pieces of art. From traditional and

religious drawings to spray painted landscapes. Bag yourself an original masterpiece.


Street Music

Italy is renowned for it classical music which touches the soul. Legends such as Pavarotti and Vincenzo Bellini have opened a path for amateur talent which keeps the cobbled streets of Rome alive, making you feel at home and giving you a real sense of what Italy is.


MarketsThe real Rome can be found in the most

unlikely places. Down alleyways, amongst stalls and behind shops.

Boutique like stands give you chance to mingle with locals and find ornate beauty in things such as handmade bracelets as

well as tasting some traditional homemade recipes. from your

neighbours.


Pantheon

This dark mysterious building is a temple to all Gods of Ancient Rome

and it is the largest reinforced concrete dome. Some say it holds ‘resemblance

of the dome to the heavens.’ The Italian artist Raphael was buried here along with several other important

Italian figures. It is now a very popular tourist spot because of it’s

overwhelming structure and interiors but remains an active church which has

been known to host many weddings.


Parks

If you’re looking for a place to relax and chill with friends, make up a picnic with homemade humous, pittas, a pasta salad, some cold pizza and maybe a dark chocolate tiramisu washed down with some cloudy lemonade and take a

stroll to a nearby park.


Spanish Steps

Between the Piazza di Spagna at the base, and Piazza Trinità dei Montiis is the widest

staircase in Europe know as the Spanish Steps. The originally named ‘Trinità dei Monti’ has been restored many times and eating and

drinking on the steps is now forbidden in order to keep the steps clean.
