Hearts Apart Brings Hearts CloserFORT MONMOUTH, N.J. -- Its my Michael in heaven was IdaGonzalezs reaction upon the unveiling of the portrait of her son. Theportrait was a gift from HeartsApart, the Army CommunityService (ACS) support group.Gonzalezs son, Spc. MichaelGonzalez, was killed in actiontwo years ago by an
improvised explosive device inIraq. Since her sons passing,Gonzalez has become aneven more active member ofthe military community. She works with the Wounded Warrior program,helps monthly at a local soup kitchen, attends Hearts Apart meetings,and is an ambassador for the Adopt a US Soldier program. She saysafter the tragedy of losing her son, the best thing for his mother to dois take care of herself and I can do that by helping others. She feelsthat she now has thousands of sons and daughters. The portrait wascreated by Utah artist Kaziah Hancock. Hancock has been paintingfallen soldiers since 2003 when she heard a radio report about a local
service member who was killed in Iraq. Article IMCOM Commanding General visits Fort CarsonFORT CARSON, Colo. -- The commanding general of InstallationManagement Command viewed a variety of facilities and servicesduring a visit to Fort Carson Aug. 25. Lt. Gen. Rick Lynch's tour
included construction sites,brigade combat team facilitiesand the resiliency campus. Healso had extended visits to theArmy Substance Abuse andSurvivor Outreach Servicesprograms. "I think it's veryimportant for the Families ofour fallen heroes to be on theradar of a top-level
commander," said Angela Gunn, interim director, Survivor OutreachServices. This shows the Gold Star Families that they are still animportant part of the Army." The SOS facility is under construction andexpected to be complete in October. Both the facility and programoffer healing to Gold Star families whose Soldiers have made theultimate sacrifice in service to their country, said Nannette Byrne-Haupt, SOS Family support coordinator and a survivor. When going out overseas Travel in small groups as much as possibleand vary movements so as not to bepredictable
Try to be inconspicuous when using publictransportation and facilities. Dress, conductand mannerisms should not attract attention.

'The Warrior Pose': Army considers yoga to treat Soldiers' painFORT MEADE, Md. -- Sgt. 1st Class Felicie Spencer takesmedication for the pain she experiences from an injury. But for a fewmonths this spring, Spencerattended yoga classes atGaffney Fitness Center. Amember of Fort Meade'sWarrior Transition Unit atKimbrough Ambulatory CareCenter, Spencer said thepractice soothed herdiscomfort. "It eases the jointswhere there is pain," she said."It's excellent. Sometimes Idon't want to leave, I'm socomfortable." If Army SurgeonGeneral Lt. Gen. Eric B. Schoomaker has his way, yoga and otheralternative therapies would be integrated into Army medicine to treatthe pain of wounded Soldiers. In May, the Army Surgeon General'sOffice released the Army Pain Management Task Force's final report.The task force, initiated by Schoomaker, made recommendations for acomprehensive pain-management strategy that is holistic,multidisciplinary and multimodal in its approach to treating Soldiersand other patients with acute and chronic pain. Fort Bragg holds all inclusive Heritage DayFORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Servicemembers hail from different culturesand ethnicities to serve alongside each other in the armed forces. OnSaturday, those cultures and ethnicities met in the inaugural Heritage
Day celebration held in theMini Mall parking lot on ReilRoad. Fort Bragg's EqualOpportunity Office sponsoredthe all-inclusive HeritageDay. According to a pressrelease, the idea wasconceived by Lt. Col. RafaelBoyd, program manager forthe Fort Bragg EqualOpportunity and HumanRelations Directorate."Throughout the year, we
recognize minorities," Boyd said. "We needed a format to recognizeeverybody in unity and this is the format." Sergeant 1st Class DeanPuzon and his wife, Stacy; and sons, Nicholas and Andrew spent theday taking in the celebration's sights and tastes. Puzon, of the 1stTheater Support Command, Headquarters and HeadquartersCompany, shared a bite of pupusas with Andrew, 10. Pupusas is atraditional Salvadoran dish similar to a corn tortilla. Sisters Ashley andRachel Diaz served the dish, topped with cheese, pork, cabbage andtomato sauce. "It was good bread," said Andrew. "It tasted kind of likea taco." "I like the cabbage and the sauce mixture together. It gives it areally good flavor," added Dean, who stressed the importance ofattending Heritage Day. "Understanding who each other is, is what ourcountry is made up of," said Dean, a native of Silverdale, Wash. who isfinishing his 20th year of service." Article

BRAC IS HERE -- ARE YOU READY?The IMCOM Relocation Web site is your source for the news and
information you need to stay abreast of the ongoing transition to SanAntonio. The move has been steadily progressing for a year, but
starting now, the pace will pick up considerably. We all need to getinformed and plan for the very near future. The Web site is there tohelp. Whether you're relocating or not, the time has come for some
informed decisions regarding BRAC and your future.
The IMCOM G1 has established the IMCOM G1 BRAC AssistanceOffice to specifically assist BRAC-impacted employees in
understanding and using available career assistance tools. This officeis partnering with multiple organizations to bring training to the IMCOMworkforce. The goal is to assist you with your individual needs as you
transition. These programs and resources will soon be featuredprominently on the Relocation Web site.
Employees may contact the "IMCOM BRAC Placement Assistance"email box if they have questions, recommendations or desire career
assistance as IMCOM transitions to San Antonio. Just look it up in theGlobal Address List.
Spouses of IMCOM employees relocating to Ft. Sam Houston maycontact the "IMCOM Spouse Relocation" email box to request career
assistance as they transition with their sponsor.
The DoD BRAC Web site(http://www.cpms.osd.mil/brac/brac_index.aspx ) provides employees
managers, supervisors, and human resources specialists the latestinformation on BRAC, and the variety of transition assistance
programs offered by the Department of Defense and other Federalagencies.

access to a number of electronic tools including the BRAC Coach, andCareer One Stop.
